Who am I?:
My name is Benjamin Murray. I'm a 26 year old New Zealander of English and Danish descent with a strong influence or sensibility for that part of the world. I trained at The National Theatre Drama School in Melbourne, Australia. Currently I am involved in mounting a production of Shakespeare's Hamlet. I am playing Big H himself.
Why Hamlet:
I want people to be moved and wonder what it is to be alive and wonder what causes a young man to feel and do the things Hamlet does so as to perhaps understand themselves a bit more.
Myself along with John Goudge the Director and our producer Nathanael, the team behind this Hamlet production are acutely aware that this play has been performed many times before, in many different ways. So we're not going to attempt to do something radically different, simply play it straight, real and with poetic gusto.
What we need:
What we are pledging for is enough money to be able to hire the Musgrove Studio as a venue for 2 weeks in mid June 2013. We also need help to pay for costumes, props, gratuity payments for all 15 actors participating, catering, lighting, sound, the list goes on... Any help from anybody, however big or small, will all add up to bring this production and dream of mine to fruition.
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come . . .
On my left forearm is a tattoo I got when I was going through my first radioactive iodine treatments for my thyroid cancer. It is scripted in renaissance text from the famous "To be, or not to be" speech. It readsFor in that sleep of death what dreams may come When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause
I want to in a working creative environment present my interpretation of the rest of the play that I am so passionately committed to. I have a wonderful team behind me.
Please help us make it happen.
Love, Benjamin
