Best Youth Academy Travel And Tourism L3 : Samoa Famil

Project 2015-07-16 13:27:07 +1200

The students of Best Youth Academy's Level 3 Travel & Tourism class are working hard to raise the money for a trip to Samoa. This trip is to help them develop an in depth understanding of Samoan culture and of tourism in Samoa. While they are there, they will be working at a number of volunteer organisations (including volunteering at the Commonwealth Youth Games), as well as visiting a variety of attractions, activities, and events in order to get an idea of what it is like to work in the tourism industry.

Our students come from a variety of challenging backgrounds. One example is Tom. Tom is 17 and lives with his mother and 4 brothers and sisters in a 2 bedroom rental in South Auckland. They receive a small amount of money for rent, utilities and food. There is absolutely no spare cash for luxuries such as travelling into the city or up the Sky Tower. Tom dreams of being a flight attendant and seeing the world, but, like many of our students, has never even seen the Auckland Harbour Bridge, even though he lives only 30km away. This trip would provide Tom, and other students like him, with the opportunity to see and experience things they would never be able to otherwise.

The trip will take 27 students and will cost a total of $59,000. While our organisation can fund a small portion of this excursion, we desperately need community involvement in order to make our students' dreams a reality!

Hey beautiful pledgers,

Just to let you know, the team at PledgeMe have now started charging people's cards for the money they pledged. A few have declined already so please make sure you have enough money on your card; no-one likes those bounced-payment fees!

For those of you who have chosen rewards, we will be preparing these once the students return from Samoa, so you can expect them early-mid October ^_^

Kind regards,

The Samoa Famil Team

We did it!

Manuia le aso ma fa'afetai tele lava!

Good morning and thank you so much!

As of this morning we have cracked $500 dollars, bringing us to 1/5 of our fundraising goal! This is AWESOME and we are so incredibly grateful for your support!'

But we still have a long way to go! Please keep the faith and keep sharing! We believe that with your support and the support of those around you we can make this happen :D

Our kids have been working super hard to raise funds; running car washes, selling "tasty plates", and learning cultural dances ready for the Posiva in two weeks time (I can't wait to bring you guys some videos from this!!!).

They're amped up, and we're so excited that you're now a part of this amazing journey! Thank you again!

Alofa,

Best Youth Academy Samoa Famil team

Thank you!
