Loki Lounge

Project 2015-06-15 12:57:32 +1200

To explain what Loki Lounge is all about it is relevant to share the story of the person behind it. So let me introduce myself. My name is Nadia and I am currently working on my dream. During my travels I have noticed how hard it is sometimes to find friends with the same interests. I always thought how cool it would be to have a place where people could catch up and just go nuts with their hobbies and find those who share the same passion. I sincerely believe that being passionate about something is very important and that a variety of hobbies adds more flavors to life. That is why as a big appreciator of different types of “extra-curriculum” activities I dreamed of working at a venue where people gather together to share fun times and participate in various events.  Unfortunately I was not lucky enough to find anything like it and eventually I understood that to work in a place like that would mean to OPEN a place like that. For several years I was holding this dream, gathering information during my travels and hoping that one day I will be able to launch this ambitious project.

After arriving in Wellington I fell in love with this city and its people and soon realised that if there is a city to open a venue of my dreams it is this one.  There are so many hobbies out there, from the classic to the curious and Loki Lounge is designed to not only support the widespread ones, but also promote the most unique and unusual. I hope that this Lounge will be able to help those who have already recognized their favorite hobby and those who still haven`t found an activity to be passionate about.

So what is Loki Lounge?

To put it simply – A Happy Place! =D

Loki lounge follows the concept of anti-café; the main idea of which is to charge people for time instead of food. Founded by Ivan Meetin - a pioneer from Russia- the first café to follow this concept, named “Ziferblat” (“Clock face”) has already grown into a chain of venues and proven to be very popular in European countries.

So far there is nothing like it in New Zealand and I believe it is a huge loss.

The lounge will be situated in the heart of Wellington city and offer its customers all sorts of entertainment.

The cosy interior with a welcoming, home-like atmosphere will be full of vintage furniture and DIY bits and pieces, a lot of which will be created during our workshops.

Events and range of activities will change and adjust with time depending on the wishes and preferences of our guests, who are a big part of the Loki Lounge!

Just to name a few:

  • Board game competitions
  • Video game competitions
  • Various workshops and classes
  • Music gigs
  •  Backpacker`s club
  • Movie nights

Our guests decide what should be added to Loki’s calendar and we make it happen.

We consider games to be the main feature of our venue. By encouraging people to participate in group competitions we basically compel them to communicate.

What else is important! There is a great bonus: all you can drink tea and coffee and free snacks to keep everyone energized and happy.

We also plan to encourage young people`s hobbies by inviting them to participate in workshops and share their skills. Different types of art will become a part of Loki Lounge. Paintings will find their place on the walls, novels and magazines on the shelves and even movie productions can make their way on to our big screen. We want to share something of ours and help others share something of their own.

All different Interest clubs of Wellington city and the wider region are more than welcome to join Loki Lounge. No matter what their direction is – literature, games, art, photography – everyone is welcome to use the Lounge for gatherings, workshops, recruiting and so on. We are also open for any suggestions and recommendations, because People We Exist For!

Making people happier is the Mission of Loki Lounge and I believe that the only true way to achieve that is to build a stronger community, unite individuals and share fun times with each other.

Obviously, just like any other project, this one will need some support in order to come to life. If you also believe in the importance of a community please support this project. We appreciate any help. Every supporter is welcome to visit our Lounge and, of course, we will grant free hours at our venue for those who wish to visit us.

Another thank you reward will be presents created at the Lounge during our DIY workshops. It will take a while, but I promise to work very hard and eventually send them to each and every backer, when the project succeeds. The bigger the support the greater the present ;) All works ready to become presents will be posted on our website and the first backer interested in the present will be the lucky receiver!

The most generous supporters will be invited for the Backers-Only Party with a special program and competitions. If we are lucky enough to get more supporters than one party can handle we will organise two (or three! The more parties the better, right?) Yay! =D

The wall of honor will also be created and every person who donated more than $230 for our cause will be a part of it. Those who donate more than $1001 will get to the Super Honor Wall with their names and photos and our eternal appreciation and admiration.

If you feel the same way, if you also think this project will brighten up the life of young (and not so young) Wellingtonians and strengthen and widen our community, then your help is most appreciated!
