About

Get Schools Back In The Pool And Reduce Drowning

Project 2015-05-26 11:14:29 +1200

This project will allow 4500 schoolchildren the opportunity to have swimming as part of their school day throughout the year.

It's costing a small fortune but with the help of local council and funding agencies we have raised enough to build a cover over the pool, put in a water heater and renovate the pool.

However we still need to raise $7500 to buy some serious filters to keep the water clean enough to cope with that many using the pool.

That's why we hope you might chip in and support us.

This pool will be around for many years to come and like the old Boys and Girls Institute pool it will allow thousands of Wellington children to learn to swim. We would like you to be part of that legacy. See rewards to have your name immortalised on a  plaque in the pool for a $50 donation.

We are a charitable trust who decided to do something about the lack of school pools in Wellington. Children are not getting regular swimming lessons at school like they used to and the drowning stats are getting worse.

This project will renovate a dilapidated and unused pool (destined to be demolished and built over) into an indoor heated facility with two separate pools (one for college students and one for primary pupils) available for use all year round.

The site is in Wellington city centre and allows for six schools to walk to the pool and have swimming back on their regular timetable.

A bonus spin off is that community sports groups can also use the pool after school hours and help support aquatic sports in the region.

The schools within the walking radius of the pool will be Wellington East Girls College, Wellington College, Clyde Quay, Mount Cook, St Mark's and Wellington High.

Big thank you on behalf of the hordes of children who will use this pool in the future.
