Te Reo Maori Education Trip To Hawaii 2015

My daughter Shavaughn and her friend Natalie are two students from a small community of the Horowhenua district. They are year 13 students at Manawatu College, Foxton, New Zealand. With no level 3 Maori standards for them to learn at Manawatu college, a Maori teacher has offered to teach them over video conference with Northland College and other schools around New Zealand. With this their kaiako (teacher) has offered them an opportunity to go over to Hawaii and be educated by their culture, language, foods, and dances and in return they will educate them with some of our culture (kapahaka). This is an opportunity of a life time but to enable them to be able to go on this education trip they need to fundraise at least $8000.00 for both of them by June 2015. The airfare for the girls is approximately $1600 which needs to be paid first before anything else.
From the two girls
We both really would like to go to Hawaii to learn a new culture and to teach another culture our language and ways of life. We will also be doing some fundraising as well such as; raffles, socials, easter fair, mufti days at school, sausage sizzles etc.
