Rangi is a soul-stirring drama following two sisters, Abigail and Hazel Parker, and their distant father Ian. Following Hazel's high-school graduation, the sisters spend their summer searching for fulfilment on Takapuna Beach. Under the guidance of a self-proclaimed pageant genius, Abigail begins training to make her grand debut at the Miss Takapuna Beach pageant. Meanwhile, in an effort to connect with her father, Hazel decides to compete in 'The Rangi Swim' - an annual boys swim from Takapuna Beach to Rangitoto Island. With the unanticipated arrival of Elliot, the son of a friend from Ian's past, the family is thrown into turmoil and forced to confront their demons.

Today is almost three months since the bones of Rangi came to life in our imaginations. As we are in the midst of tackling the nitty and gritty of pre-production, we have come to the time when we need to confront our first challenge: our $0 budget. Graduating from South Seas Film and Television School in two months time, we are diving into the deep end of filmmaking with plans to start filming mid-January. Where our bank accounts lack, our enthusiasm and drive prevails. This entire project is a learning experience for us and a chance to prove to ourselves that determination and passion are enough to bring a story to life. However, despite our unfailing positivity, the reality is we need money to make our project.

We have an incredible crew of volunteers and an ever-growing network of friends happy to lend equipment and a hand. However, to cover gear hire costs, locations, accommodation for our fantastic crew, food, petrol, permits and festival entries we are ideally aiming to raise $6000. Every ounce of energy and dollar we receive towards the production of Rangi, we want to give back double in thanks and credit. We are eternally grateful to everyone who contributes to our dream and every donation counts, no matter how small. Every dollar helps!

Please check out our progress with our regular blog posts on our website or have a look at (and like) our Facebook page.

Thank you from everyone on the Rangi Team - Georgina Bloomfield, Olivia Preston, Grace Goulter, Douglas Baker, Alexandra Wares and Jacob Iwikau xxx

Also a huge thank you to our incredible editor for our campaign video - Ash Stewart and our amazing crew Juanita Ballantyne and Steve Moon - we can't wait to work with you on the real thing!

Firstly, we wanted to give all of our supporters a humungous THANK YOU for your belief in and enthusiasm for our project. We have had such a wonderful response and received so many messages of encouragement, which we cannot thank enough for.

Unfortuantely, we do have some bad news which is very difficult for us to share. Although we have complete confidence that we can reach our PledgeMe target with last minute pledges, we have recently had a hiccup in the pre-production phase of Rangi. A core member of our team, our director Douglas Baker, has been offered a fixed-term position working for a television show which he has decided he could not decline. Coincidentally, his work will take place at the exact time we had planned to shoot Rangi.

As we were not made previously aware that there was a possibility of this happening and the news was presented to the team extremely last minute (within the last few days) and so close to the production, we do not have enough time to bring in a new director, re-coordinate the project and film it in the same time frame we had planned for.

The rest of the Rangi team are immensely upset to share this news and although we are absolutely determined to see this project through to the end, we need to postpone the production and we do not believe it would be right to accept the funds from PledgeMe when our plans are no longer set in stone.

We are more disappointed than anyone and we want to thank you again for everything you have done to assist the project in this phase. Our current plans are to put our thinking caps back on, find new members of the team that we can trust to see the project through to the end and put in the time and effort to see the story justice. We plan to use this setback as both a lesson and motivation to work hard over the next year and make the most of the artistic potential of the story.

We can promise you this is not the last you will hear of Rangi.

Love the Rangi team xxx
