Marie and Matiu Samuel have been selected as one of only 15 entries to compete in “The Capezio Dance Off!” a competition to be held as part of the Australian Tap Festival running in Melbourne 9 – 15 July 2012.
The Australian Tap Festival is the only one of its kind in Australasia where participants fly in from interstate and overseas to be part of this cutting edge festival.
This is an opportunity for Marie and Matiu to not only represent New Zealand against some of the top tappers in Australia but to learn and hone their tapping skills as they participate in the many residencies and master classes available over the week.
Marie and Matiu have a proven track record in competitions throughout New Zealand, Australia and USA with their tap Dancing. Both have aspirations of a future in dance through performance and teaching, this is one of the many stepping stones that will help them along this path.
They are role models and inspirations for young dancers in New Zealand that with hard work and dedication, proving it is possible to fulfil your dreams. Their desire is to motivate others to follow their own dreams and to pass on what they learn to others.
Trip Cost:
The Trip will cost Approx $6000 for flights, accommodation, living costs and conference fees. We have $1000 ready to go, our goal is to raise $3000 ourselves through saving, busking and general fund raising, leaving a target of $2000 to find through Pledge Me.

- Matiu Samuel (13yrs) Student at Avalon Intermediate
- Marie Samuel (15yrs) Student at Taita College
- Mum Samuel – our chaperon, guide, motivator and just plain ole great mum!
And hopefully...
- Big Sister Aroha Samuel (the one that inspired us to dance)

We have worked hard - got our costs down to $5500, thanks to an offer of accommodation in Melbourne and a discount to our workshop fees.... We are now just under $1500 short of our target...

Both Marie and Matiu have now been asked if they would like to compete with their Tap Solo"s and Duo in the Capezio Dance Challenge....Wow - so excited what an opportunity !!!!
Of the 15 competing slots they now fill 3!!!
