About

Cambodian Women In Tech

Project 2014-08-29 09:40:38 +1200

We need to raise five thousand New Zealand dollars to help Sreynak and Chhing come from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to New Zealand to attend Enspiral Dev Academy. At Dev Academy they'll learn technical and soft skills over nine weeks and emerge as confident web developers.

In 2013 co-founder of Dev Academy, Joshua Vial, spent some time in Phmon Penh. While he was there he met an inspirational group of web developers and designers. With limited access to computers they were trying telp young people gain IT skills. They would exchange their time and skills for computers so they could further their mission.

Dev Academy has the chance to help two of these amazing Cambodians keep doing what they love. We're giving them each a full scholarship.

We just need to raise five thousand dollars to pay for flights for both students and help with living costs.

The women will take what they learn home to Cambodia where they'll be able to continue helping young people up-skill in IT. With their new skills and confidence they'll be able to further the role of women in tech in Cambodian society.

Sreynak and Chhing are passionate about web development and becoming digital tech leaders in Cambodia. If you have the capacity to help them please pledge whatever you can.

For those of you who have been to or who are planing on visiting Cambodia the 'View from Cambodia' and the 'Cambodian banquet' rewards are great ways to reconnect with Khmer (Cambodian) heritage.
