Hi. My name is Andrew Baker and I run a small, creative, New Zealand company called IQideas that designs and develops unique educational games and toys.
I live and work in Hawkes Bay and have 2 girls, Zoe and Jade, who are the inspiration for my creativity. I got excited about this Make Your Own Marble Roll project because I spent hours constructing homemade marble rolls myself as a child from old Weetbix boxes. One cold winter school holiday day a few months ago, myself and my girls spent hours doing exactly the same thing as I'd done as a child - making an elaborate marble roll from old boxes in our garage. The idea for the Make You Own Marble Roll was born!
My team at IQideas then refined and further developed the design. The finished product is made from pre-cut, recycled, corrugated cardboard that can be coloured in, assembled and played with by kids. It's been designed so that no scissors, glue or cellotape are required for its construction. Laid out in a straight line it's more than 2 metres long and 30cm high.
We've developed 3 different themed versions of the Make Your Own Marble Roll, Dragons & Damsels, New Zealand Birds, and Wild Animals. Stencils are provided in each pack to help kids draw images on their Roll that fit with these themes.
We took a mockup of the Dragons & Damsels themed Marble Roll to the New Zealand Toy Fair in Hamilton at the beginning of May this year and received a fabulous response from local New Zealand retailers. The response from kids who have coloured, assembled and played with the prototype versions has been equally positive.
We need funding to help with the manufacturing and production of this exciting arts and craft product, as large production quantities are required if we're to produce it and sell each item for less than $20 retail. We estimate, from quotes we've received from manufacturers, that we need $5210 to start production.
We'd really love the opportunity to make the Make Your Own Marble Roll a reality and are relying on support from you to help bring this project to life. We've tailored the rewards so that you can support us, but at the same time you'll receive discounted Rolls and other benefits. All supporters will receive regular updates on progress and personal acknowledgement from myself thanking them for their support. We look forward to reaching our funding goal early with your support.
Thanks (and Happy Rolling)
Andrew
