Get Us To Rio De Janiero To Represent NZ In Waka Ama
Project 2014-06-25 19:30:22 +1200
This project is to help raise the remaining funds to attend the 2014 IVF Va'a World Sprint Championships hosted by Brazil in Rio De Janiero (August 2014). The IVF Va'a World Sprint Championships is where the top athletes from all around the world compete in a sport called Va'a (also known as outrigger canoeing or waka ama in New Zealand).
JEISHARN - STEERER JAHVAUGHN - No5
We are Jeisharn & Jahvaughn Manaena, Twins aged 17, are currently students in our 7th Form/Y13 at Napier Boys High School. Although commitment to training for Waka Ama has played a major part in our time outside of school hours, we have always maintained our education levels to achieve with merits and above average results for NCEA 1 & 2 as well as achieving colours for Napier Boys through Secondary School Regionals and Nationals.
We have been selected to represent NZ W6 Under 19 Mens at this Competition where we will compete against the fastest in the World over 500 metres and 1000 metres. Our team name "Kahungunu Taumata Rau." We will also race in the W12 joining our Waka with another team from New Zealand over the same distances.
As a team, we have proven to be a powerful unit, exceedingly dedicated to achieving a medal in Brazil. We have committed many hours of sea, land and endurance training to attain the speed and technique required to compete at Worlds level.
Although the status to represent New Zealand comes with great honour, all costs are met by our families. For just one sportsman around $8000. For twins, double the price tag.
With the help of our family, many fundraisers with our team, sponsorship and work commited by us we have raised the bulk of our costs. We are now seeking the remaining $2410.00.
We ask you to support us to get to Rio - its in our reach - we nearly there !
