About

Texans Love Meat...give Them The Train...the MEAT TRAIN!!!!!!!

Project 2014-06-07 19:05:40 +1200

Hi I'm Marcia aka Meat Train #4711.

I'm a Wellington-based roller derby skater and I need your support to get me and my skates to Texas!

As you can see from my CRAZY rewards I am willing to do (just about) anything to get there.

MY PROMISE:

If you pledge me a dare it will be filmed and put on my you tube channel for your viewing pleasure!

Should be bloody good fun :)

Representing the Hard of Hearing/ Deaf community (I can't hear squat if you take my hearing aid out or if I'm on the track - but who can anyway??) I am not letting my lack of hearing tell me I can't compete at an international level, for my country, in a mainstream (not disability-specific) sport.

This year the second ever Blood and Thunder Roller Derby World Cup is being held in Dallas, USA in December.

In late-2013 the tryouts for the NZ team were held around the country and I was selected for the training squad (OARSOME!!!!!) - a group of 30 of the best skaters, from which the final 20 will be picked.

At derby we play hard and we train hard. I'm well known for pushing myself and others to be the best that they can be.

People fear my training sessions. For a reason ;)

What have I been doing to make sure I'm in that final 20?

* I've gone stair-crazy

* I skip like a 5-year old on coke

* I've joined the Petone Rowing Club (x-training)

* I'm mountain-biking all the hills I can find

* I have a love affair with my fat-shaker machine that is giving me knees of steel (to go with my leg-wrestling/ baby-seal-eating calves)

Please note: I am the reigning womens' leg-wrestling champion within the NZ Roller Derby community. Danger Danger is the only guy to have taken me down or I'd have that title too...dammit...

And THAT is on top of my normal derby training commitments that see me skating up to 4 x a week.

As a member of the NZ training squad we have financial commitments we have to make, like...

* flights to monthly training weekends around the country

* sports nutrition

* physio

* wear and tear on our gear

* gym subscription

* and the list goes on...

As a reletively new and not-mainstream sport we don't get funding from the Government - even when we're representing our country. I am covering the costs above while on the training squad but WHEN I get selected for the final 20 I have to be able to pay for the costs associated with getting to the World Cup.

The figure we've been told to aim for is around $5,000.

I'm aiming for $20,000.

Anything I get above $2,500 is going to Team NZ!

MEATY and Team NZ need your help to make this dream happen!
