WHY
Hi my name is Erin Feasey
Our beautiful son has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which is a progressive muscle wasting condition with a limited life span. He is a cheeky wee intelligent soul who loves life AND BOOKS!
As parents we were struck with the OMG how will we ever tell him or begin to talk about some of this stuff?
There is only one picture book out there to help deal with these issues but it is American and not what I was looking for.
WHAT I HAVE DONE
I have written my own picture book DINOSAUR MAC'S DISCOVERY and follows a boy through the beginning stages of this condition.
He wears a dinosaur tail everywhere and follows him on some of his "adventures" like physio, Echocardiograms and so on. It is ment to be heartwarming (dino tail), funny (dino tail) while being real (people) and accurate (words like Physio and peadiatrician).
MY AIM
My aim is for this to be given out to all young children's families who have this condition for no cost to begin with. There are 14 children 7 and under in NZ With DMD, there is likely to be 4 or 5 times this many in OZ.
There are approx 9 new diagnosis of varying ages in NZ each year.
MONEY PLEDGED
Money raised will go towards the Illustrator, Publishing and printing. to print approx 200 books is just under $2000 although i am hoping for printers to get on board also.
The MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) will help where they can and are behind this book also which means a LOT!!!!!
ILLUSTRATIONS
A WONDERFUL illustrator Gabriella Klepatski has come on board after only one email and volunteered her skills.... She has illustrated for Margret Mahy and many other wonderful authors. Here are some of her developmental sketches to get you drooling over the cuteness ... She is amazingly talented and I am so overwhelmed she is a part of this.
MORE MONEY PLEDGED THAN TARGET.
Well to start with that would be AMAZING!!! The money raised will go towards the illustrator, publishing and printing with any money left over to be donated straight back to MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION Or printing more books depending on money raised and book demand.

According to my illustrator if we don't get a publisher who will discount for us this will just pay for the publishing ... Hopefully if we get some discount then the money can go even further ..... This is awesome!!! I do love you and thank you for all the support ..... RAWR RAWR RAWR RAWR

Update time again! we have hit $3,700 on pledge me and just super happy
Gabriella the illustrator is having a bit of a break from Dino Mac at the moment as as she has some awesome exhibitions etc to be a part of and do work for. I have only received confirmation from one publisher that they have got my submission. I have added a new page to the book as had not included blood tests and they happen once or twice a year.... this does not seem a lot but most kids are used to inj...ections not actual taking blood.

Hi everyone.
right now I have a headcold and am sick enough to want my mummy but not sick enough to justify being in bed all day ... Sigh!
i have had even more pledges coming in and we are $550 over our target ....un believable stuff!
this will be amazing and in some way shape or form it will be used for the book or as a donation depending what all the othe costs come to and since I really have no idea it could be quite interesting :) printing cost are right up there but fingers crossed for some more friendly people who like this book to get on board :)
look after yourselves and try not to get silly pathetic headcolds they really are blah!!!

Not only are we only $50 away from $3000 with still a month left on pledge me, Gabriella has sent me page layouts of the book and it is just perfect... Words are all well and good but with her illustrations it's stunning!
3 submissions were sent off today as the 4th would not accept unsolicited manuscripts.
I think I need to stop wearing mascara at the moment ... It seems to be constantly smeared down my face accompanied by some decent red eye as something mostly happy things is bound to make me cry daily.
Truly cool times! Except for the mascara lol

You know that rush you get when you swoosh down a new slide for the first time with Grandad shouting encouragement .... Well that's how I am feeling now.
Dino Mac on Pledge Me is now up to $1945 ....about $500 more than when I went to bed last night ... Crazy cool!

Today I am printing off my story and editing my submission letter to send of submissions to Gecko Press, Schoolastic, and a few more. Let's hope they are all as supportive as you. Sadly they do take their time letting people know if they will accept them but I will let you know as soon as I know
