Come come! This is the answer we have all been waiting for! Each dollar is a vote, who are you voting for? This question is relevant, especially now at this time of realization, we have power as individuals, immense power! Now ask not only where are you spending your money, but where are you spending your energy? What are your thoughts when you think about the state of the world? For many of us, not nice! So as we can see, our energy dollars (if you will) our thoughts, are investing in a world where we destroy and rape, but its out of our hands... not a good investment! There has to be an alternative perspective to invest in, one that considers all as brother and sister, well, its undenaible the bonds we all share, we are one on this planet, its OURS. A perspective where we all share the resources, the knowledge, the spaces and the respect. This is what we are bringing about from our humble beginning...

We are the Waitapu Pirates! We have half an acre of land in the Takaka area of the South island, its a great property, with 2 houses and a large boat building shed. Our ideas are many, but the main goal is to set up permaculture gardens that will feed all those living on the property, then providing a space for the community at large to come and exchange skills and knowledge and to express themselves artistically and spiritually.

There are many communities in the hills surrounding Takaka, being very central we can provide a place for them to meet and form a wider network of helping hands and heads that can unite and bring these wonderfully earth friendly styles of living together, this is important as we as a planet are finding that we need to come together and start a way of living that will leave a green and abundant Earth for future generations this is our broader intention as a people.

One of the houses is to become a space for the workers and visitors to stay, cook and create, the other house will house the mycelium room (spore protected) and gardening gear, the upstairs will be a living space. THEN we got the boat shed... This space is enormous! It will be a place for working with wood, engineering, sound studio and storehouse, this space will be ever changing as new projects and ideas are threshed out on the workshop floor. Super exciting. More ideas for the projects and workshops are teaching healing methods for us and the planet, progressive and concious building styles, mechanical skills and sailing/boating. We will also be having workshops on Yoga, masage, dance, weaving, pottery, permaculture, basic vehicle servicing, how to grow your own mycellium and mushrooms, how to build a solar cooker, how to build a pizza oven, how to build a straw bale house etc... leaving lots of space for new ideas! This will be a dynamic area.

Our first move will be to clear the gardens and use mycelium for soil healing/enhancement, then we can begin planting from our stock of heritage seeds (very important to keep these safe and sacred as we see more and more GM seed in the world) While the gardens are being set up, we will get to work on clearing out the houses and making them livable and aesthetically pleasing! (teams of designers will be scouring the op-shops!) We will also be building composting toilets and looking at the roofs of the buildings as a water collection method, for this we will need a water tank.

We work together as a team and work on the idea that everything we run on should be a gift from the heart, A koha, or a donation that you feel is right for your experience or for the experience of others...

We have on board:

Johannes - Guardian of the land at Waitapu, he is an electrically minded agricultural engineer who teaches Pre trade or Pre apprenticeship training in Germany

Phil - An Organiser and Networker who has spent his life living outside of destructive systems and working with people to create green living spaces.  An expert on building with recycled materials, a bus driver and basic mechanics tutor.

Tom - Skipper for our boats, he can teach people to sail and navigate while enjoying the many beaches and coves of the Abel Tasman National park and further into the Marlborough Sounds

Ana - Studying Community Dynamics at University, she will be studying how we work as a group and where we can improve and grow, this model can then be used in other places to create harmonious communities

Sam - A film major who has been traveling the world making Documentaries on Alternative Education, currently living at a local, well established community, he will be making films that can broadcast alternative methods of living into the world!

Seb - Expert in Mycellium and mushroom production and their uses to help the environment

We also have a dynamic group of people who come and go from the surrounding community and from far around the world, this gives us a fresh and varied energy that is vital to our longevity
