Ben Chambers (B Mus)

Thank you for your time and your interest in me. My project is to raise enough money to supplement my own earnings so that I can make the shift from Nelson, New Zealand, to London, England where I now have the chance of a career in musical theatre.

My career outline to date:

Ben is no newcomer to the stage. After being dragged kicking and screaming to his first audition in 2001, a baby-faced 9 year-old Ben landed his first role as a member of the ensemble of King Arthur. Ben then spent his school years enthusiastically performing in a multitude of pantomimes, plays and musicals.

Ben’s home town is Nelson, New Zealand. In his final year at Nelson College he was a house captain, deputy head boy and drama mentor . As a member of The Nelson Youth Theatre Company' for 9 years highlight roles included: Marius Les Misérables, Munkustrap Cats, Fagin Oliver, Freddy Einsford-Hill My Fair Lady.  Ben also taught a group of 20 children singing and acting at 'SOUNDSTAGE', a Nelson performing arts school. He has always loved teaching and gets a great deal of enjoyment from sharing his passion, passing on his knowledge and watching performers grow.

In 2010 Ben was accepted into both NASDA (National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Arts, NZ) and the Queensland Conservatorium of Music; he chose Queensland, studying under Paul Sabey. He graduated as Bachelor of Music (Musical Theatre) in 2013. Key roles during his Conservatorium studies include Tevye Fiddler on the Roof and, most recently, John/Chris understudy Miss Saigon. Late in 2013 Ben toured with the Conservatorium’s 3rd-year showcase OUR TURN playing in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. As a result Ben had several top agencies from Australia offering representation in 2014. However, encouragement and advice from industry mentors led him to pursue his dream and make the move to London as soon as possible.

Ben has already been signed by leading London agent, Michael Garrett at 'GLOBAL ARTISTS’ (http://www.globalartists.co.uk). After viewing Ben’s showreel Michael said he was “completely sold on him [Ben] and I anticipate that we’ll have him working in the West End in the coming year once he's relocated to the UK".

SO……..THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN!!!

As this amazing opportunity has developed so very quickly after my student years I find myself somewhat underfinanced to relocate to London. I have been lucky enough to slot back into two jobs in Nelson that I was working in prior to studying in Australia and am working as many hours as possible to support my move. It goes without saying that I would like to be in London as soon as possible. I’m aiming to be there by the end of March.

So it would be fantastic and greatly appreciated if you could donate money on this website to my project. Every dollar counts. Whether it be one dollar or one thousand dollars, it is all going to go toward my relocation to London and the realisation of my dream of performing in the West End!

Please share this project / campaign with as many people as possible.

Thank you again,

Ben Chambers.

Home Stretch!

13/03/2014 at 1:02 PM

This is the last week for my PledgeMe campaign.
I have been overwhelmed by the support shown by so many of you. Thus far I have managed to raise $2,222 which is fantastic. It's less than a week until I begin my journey to London and begin this next huge adventure! There are no rules on going over the limit for my PledgeMe fundraising so if you were thinking of helping out you still can!!!
All of this financial support means the world to me and is also going to ensure that I'll be able to keep up my training so my skill set is as strong as possible, giving me the best shot at getting on that stage!
Please keep sharing for this last week and then I promise I will no longer clog up your news feed.
Thanks,

Ben Chambers

WE MADE IT!

03/03/2014 at 10:48 AM

I have not only reached my $2000 goal but people are still pledging!
I just want to thank everyone for the support. Not only to the people who have donated but to anyone who viewed my story (and helped write it) and shared the page. I'm only a few weeks out from the big move to London and am very excited, anxious and nervous. The money I have raised through PledgeMe is going to go a long way in settling me into my new environment and helping me to continue growing as an artist and a person BUT it's not just the money. To see how many people are invested in my future and believe in me has been very humbling and has given me a great deal of confidence which I thank you all very much for. Thank you all once again, you have truly blown me away with your support and generosity.
Cheers,

Ben.

And They're Off!!!

Cheers,

Ben.
