About

Ye Taupo Medieval Faire 2014

Project 2013-12-28 19:35:05 +1300

Help develop the Medieval Faire, in Taupo. Historic re-enactors from all periods - Dark Ages, Romans, European Medieval and the wild beyond will create a Living History Encampment.  There will be artisans' displaying their crafts and skills (and mayhap offering their goods for sale too).  There will be weapons combat,  mummers and opportunities to have-a-go at all sorts of things Medieval.

The Faire will be open to the public, and will offer Medieval market traders, entertainments, and food stalls, to keep all participants fed and hydrated.

Our team:

You - This will be a re-enactment community event, needing the support (being there and doing their thing!) of re-enactors from all over NZ.  If you re-enact pre-1700s - please come along & offer a display.  Co-ordinators are Graham E of the Sable Harts, and Andria G of the Northern Horde. The aim is to gather for a modest event in 2014 which can be built upon to grow into a marvelous community event in future years.

Local people and overseas tourists have expressed interest in attending - and here is an opportunity to invest in something they would like to see happen!

How can you help:

Some absolute basics are urgently needed and 'shoestring budget' is currently an over-estimate.  If everyone makes a small donation - and for some contributions the reward is an event entry - the event becomes better and better.

You could join Baldaquin Inc, which is the organisation facilitating the Faire. Kat Jenkins asked the question 'what is Baldaquin Inc'  in answer: Baldaquin is an Incorporated Society of NZ, so it is a legal entity and non-profit organisation - for more info on that side of things: https://sites.google.com/site/baldaquinincorporated/ . Baldaquin means 'canopy', and it is within this canopy that we are creating the community event of the Faire. Baldaquin Inc currently has members who are active in re-enactment groups such as the Northern Horde, the Company of the Sable Harts, TACL, Belisha and a few other informal groups - all of whom want to see the Faire up and running! Anyone can join.

Most importantly, pledge and help make Ye Taupo Medieval Faire happen:

  • $500 will make the event viable - towards basic insurance and another urgent cost
  • the next $250 will start us towards adequate rubbish bags
  • the next $250 - taking donations to $1000 - would enable disposal of some of that rubbish.
  • another $250 - taking donations to $1250 - would gather some haybales to define the 'performance'  arena.

Each small contribution will be added to making the event successful and efficient.

  • $500 more - to $1750 - some of the required 1-3km of fencing (so we can have a 'gate' for people to enter and pay!)

Each donation offers a reward - and the gratitude of the facilitators for 2014!

  • $450 on top - $2200 will hire a modest sound system.

The more donations, the more the event can offer - the more the event offers, the more people will come through the gate.

If we can amass a further $2250 (raising $4450) venue hire can be covered upfront.

Every donation will help - towards the cost of the venue, getting portaloos and water there if required & making it a fenced event so can charge a gate fee! Monies raised through public attendees will be put towards Baldaquin Inc's plans to make the event an annual happening - but start up funding is a must. There are urgent costs which must be paid upfront!

$5000 would make the event viable at a central Taupo location - which will encourage public attendance! This acknowledges that re-enactors will be putting in a lot of voluntary effort in the displays and in set-up & take down.

A grand event of Medieval delights could cost $35,000 upwards - BUT we can create a viable event for a tiny percentage of that.  Contributions are definitely needed!

Even a modest $5 could sort out a bag of rubbish removal

$10 could add a span of fencing to the perimeter

$15 - a more substantial span to the combat arena

$20 - 40 a contruibution towards a portaloo (if required) or towards security for the site

More $$$ well add layers of ambience and authenticity to the event and start to make it possible for it to be an annual event!

Please join us:

Knights in armour, thespian acts, stallholders, traders, exhibitors, jousters, horse riders, Medieval combatants, Living history displays - please contact us to join in the event, and share this project with your friends, whanau, complete strangers ... April would be a good time to be in Taupo.

Those interested in attending as 'public' - please help now to ensure the event does happen.
Even $5 will help, and the rewards may appeal.

Save ANZAC weekend to be in Taupo in 2014 - Set up 24th - open to the public 25th, 26th, 27th April, take down 28th.

I would like to say a big thank you to all those who offered pledges for Taupo Faire - the project *nearly* achieved its target, but not quite . The Faire most definitely still happens! And those of you who proffered pledges have more money in your pockets to spend at the Faire! There will be ample opportunity to have-a-go at fight-a-knight, shoot-a-knight, archery, be a crusader, an aide de camp, a lady or a peasant and to enjoy the happenings altogether. I hope you will all attend and enjoy! With thanks and appreciation, Andria G (Hobdid) and Graham E (Archer) for Baldaquin Incorporated Society of NZ
