The Great Tongan Mission

Project 2013-12-26 20:29:16 +1300

Malo e leilei (hello) and malo 'aupito (thank you) for visiting our PledgeMe page. Our names are Fononga and Antoinette and we are planning to move to Tonga in February 2014. Antoinette is going to teach at a little school in Nuku'alofa called Maamaloa Side School. Fononga has just finished a degree in counselling and he will be working as a counsellor to provide counselling to his own people (if you haven't already guessed it Fononga is a Tongan).

We are very excited about the big move, however our finances are not looking very good. We are aiming to take a whole lot of resources (both counselling and teaching resources) over in a shipping container which will be used for teaching and counselling.

Throughout the year we have managed to save some money but it is not enough to cover the shipping costs. If you decide to contribute to this cause it will go towards these things:

1. Basic resources for schools such as books, pencils, and pens. (I would love to buy paint, colouring pencils, felts, and crayons as these things are very rare in Tongan schools).

2. Teaching and counselling resources that will be helpful for not only ourselves but the collegues/clients/students we work with.

3. Some of the shipping costs and taxes that will be applied when it arrives in Tonga (This has to do with customs and the things we take to Tonga will be taxed).

In our minds, $2000 should cover all these things on top of what we have already saved. If you chose to donate money towards this cause you will be invited to join a blog that we have created and you will receive regular updates about the things we are doing and how the money is proving useful in Tonga.

I want to thank you in advance for donating, every dollar counts!!

God Bless.

P.S If you have any resources/materials (teaching or counselling) you would like to send to Tonga, and you live in the Auckland region or Tauranga region then leave a message below and we will get in contact with you.

Just a quick thank you to all the people who have already pledged! It is so nice to know that even people we do not know are helping us out with our mission! AWESOME!

An update on resources collected:

- Reading materials (Including school journals)

- Paper and card (great for art work)

- Small storage boxes (Good for activity sheets or holding important info)

- Crayons

- Teaching resources

- Counselling resources

- A ton of clear files

I can't think of everything else but we have done rather nicely! We are stoaked with the support we've received and we can't wait till Friday to see if this mission is complete! To help us get closer to our goal please don't hesitate to share on Facebook or email.

Blessings to all of you.
