ABOUT ME
My name is Cora McCauley. I am 16 years old and LOVE the outdoors. I am a Venturer, which means I do quite a bit of tramping and outdoorsy stuff! This is one of the reasons that for my Class 12 Project next year, I will be attending Outward Bound Mind Body Soul course from 4-24 January 2014. This will be part of the practical aspect of my project. In my research document, I wish to explore the benefits of courses-such as Outward Bound and Duke of Edinburgh Hilary Award- give to young people.
OUTWARD BOUND
Outward Bound courses are based on real adventure. Attendees will have experiences that are physically, mentally and emotionally challenging.
All activities involve situations where there are real consequences. Activities will include activities such as: Sailing, Kayaking, High ropes, Rock climbing, Solo experience, Trampin and Physical training. However, previous outdoors experience is not needed to participate.
Learning through experience is the foundation of all Outward Bound courses - attendees will learn by doing!
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Self Development |
Develop your self awareness, confidence and motivation. Recognise your potential. Understand and assume personal responsibility. |

Increase your social awareness and communication skills. Understand how to create effective relationships and experience success as a member of a team. |
Values |
Consideration of your own, others and Outward Bound’s values which are Compassion, Greatness, Responsibility and Integrity. Develop skills to resolve conflicts of values. |

Experience education in, about and for the environment. Become a guardian of the environment. |
Service |
Experience and understand what it means to be of service. |
Once completing Outward Bound, I wish to survey my fellow Watch-mates to see whether different upbringings and backgrounds affect the skills gained on Outward Bound. I will also complete a survey myself, and will ask some of the people around me (e.g. parents, teachers etc.) to complete a different survey to see whether to them, I have changed.
Outward Bound costs a total of $3,930. I have already fund-raised $3,500 so far! That means I only have $500 to go!
Please help my get to Outward Bound! I am looking forward on going so much!
