Visit East Side Institute

Project 2013-11-05 02:20:55 +1300

I have been invited to be a visiting scholar at the East Side Institute (NY) - an international educational, research and training center for developing and promoting radical and alternative humanistic approaches in performance, therapy, education and community building. During my visit I will share my research on Presence and Intercultural Performance Research. I will also immerse myself in the performance-based activities of the inspirational All Stars project, recognized as one of America's most effective anti-violence programs for inner-city youth through the use of creativity, performance and developmental play. My visit will take place in April 2014.

On my return I want to establish the South Side Institute in Northland, affiliated with and based on similar model, principles and activities as the East Side Institute in NY. The South Side Institute will employ arts education to address issues of violence, bullying, suicide and cultural alienation.

I have now reached my initial target and will definitely go to NY in April. Yay!! This is so exciting. Thank you to all the generous people who have pledged money in support of my project.

Perhaps you were planning to pledge money but haven't gotten around it. Don't despair, you can still support this humanistic project. Any money donated above the cost of my visit to East Side Institute will be used to promote the foundation of the South Side Institute by publishing a brochure and setting up a website, as well as helping to establish a community garden on the future site of the South Side Institute in Northland.
