Lexi (2014) - Feature Film

Project 2013-10-26 03:49:52 +1300

Heartfelt movie about a teenager and her struggle for acceptance in a small New Zealand town.

Every Betrayal Begins with Trust

LEXI is a new feature film, inspired by real life events, about a semi-literate teenager and her search for acceptance in a small town. The story centres around LEXI (Request Ahomana) an aged-care worker, caring for a manipulative old woman. On the surface Lexi is willing and helpful in her job, but privately she is guarded and pained about her inability to read or write in a society where nothing less is acceptable. By chance, Lexi meets a young man, CODY (Dean Hanns) and strives for love and a better future.

This movie is writer/director Wayne Turner’s debut feature film. The cast includes seasoned professionals and talented newcomers. The film was mainly shot over 6 months during a harsh, but picturesque winter in the Oamaru, North Otago.

The Lexi movie project has been a labour of love for 3 years from script writing to fine-cut edit. The crew have volunteered their time, and our local community has provided assistance and moral support.

While principal photography is complete and the main edit is done, we are in the last stretch of post-production. This final phase of professional edit services includes sound design, mixing, colour correction, composing original music and licensing additional music – but we need your help! Every single one of your donations will put this project closer to completion and public screenings at film festivals around the world.

Please watch the trailer below.

Publicity

05/05/2014 at 11:26 AM

With any creative project, like filmmaking, there's a great deal of time spent on marketing through the press and online. Eventually, the story makes it's way to the right people and is added to their Blogs and industry websites, like Viewfinder magazine:

Sound Design for movies is important

14/04/2014 at 5:56 PM

Hi everyone, 'Sound Design' for a film is the 'creative combination' of everything we hear coming from a film, movie or TV programme. Sound elements within the film's sound stream roughly fall into dialogue (ie actors' voices), ambient sound (sounds that inhabit the charcters' world), SFX (sound effects eg door slamming, thunder, glasses clinking, etc.), foley (ie footsteps and clothing sounds are recreated in a studio), and music. Tiny pieces of origianal music are composed for virtually every scene. This music helps the audience understand and get a feel for what's happening in the characters mind. Music can be added to scenes to enhance any given human emotion (love, loss, grief, pain, anger etc). Some filmmakers chose to not have this emotiv music at all but a film can benifit from a great sound score. Selecting, composing, compiling, editing and mixing the hundreds of various audio elements that make up a film's sound sream takes weeks to complete. It's a task that is best left to professionals like comosers, musicains, audio supervisors and foley artists.

Aside from the amount of professional time required to created a film's audio stream, the 'post sound' production facilities are expected to have the latest equipment, computers and software. This all adds up to costing the average low-budget filmmaker/producer up to $45,000 per film.

However, I shopped around Auckland and have a small company willing to do sound design for $8,000. I've got them started already on this process.

I've added a link to this update that shows the fascinaitng art of a 'foley artist' working on a Russell Crowe (NZ actor) movie.
