Free Community Guided Snorkel Days
Project 2013-10-02 02:44:05 +1300
The free Community Guided Snorkel Days at the Reotahi site of the Whangarei Harbour Marine Reserve have proven very popular with the public and the media over the years. The Snorkel Days are a free, fun and safe summer community event! We are currently looking for a primary corporate sponsor, but you could help us right now!
The Snorkel Days are a great way for families and community members of all ages to experience and enjoy their local marine reserve while raising awareness about marine conservation. We love to make people happy and help them to experience the joys of snorkelling and our wonderful marine environment. You never know what you might spot? A nudibranch or a seahorse?
The Snorkel Days also help us build awareness of the Whangarei Harbour Marine Reserve and it's boundaries. Over the years we have refined our procedures and have great resources and equipment that contribute to the smooth operation and success of these events. On average 100 people attend each event and they have become a key feature in the Whangarei community, but we need funding to make them happen. We need your help to guarantee at least one of these events will happen this summer! Your support will cover all the organisation, promotion and delivery of the Snorkel Day event (including washing hundreds of wetsuits at the end of the day!). We also recruit up to 10 volunteer snorkel guides whom offer their time in-kind. Snorkel gear hire is offered for free.
Experiencing Marine Reserves (see our website) is a programme of the Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust CC23406 . Learn more about what we do by watching this video Experiencing Marine Reserves We are also on Facebook
