Music and Me

Music and Me is an original theatre play written by South Auckland Pasifika Actor and Playwright Victoria Schmidt. Music and Me had its first ever premiere at the Mangere Arts Centre which is South Auckland"s Theatre and Entertainment hub, with funding support from the Creative Communities Scheme.

It tells a story of four South Auckland friends existing on the same poverty-stricken street. An old man wrestling with dementia, a male prostitute in search of a quick fix, a street poet who rhymes in all the wrong places and a vicious drag entrepreneur. From the first successful season, Music and Me has been welcomed for a Wellington Premiere at BATS Theatre, from September 4th-September 15th. This is to provide a vehicle to raise awareness of:

How far our pacific people have come since the migration era, mental illness, prostitution, homelessness, and substance abuse. This is also to incorporate the Wellington community to participate in, and experience work created by established and emerging Pasifika artists. A universal story, told from a pacific perspective - yet speaks to an wider audience. With an exceptional cast, a return season of the production will be an exciting opportunity for the Wellington community.

This PledgeMe project will raise funds towards pre-production and production costs.
