The Gisborne Concert Band has been in existence since 1947 - initially as a brass band.  Today the Band encompasses three levels of banding - learner, mezzo (intermediate) and senior.  This structure ensures the ongoing musical growth and development of our children/youth and adult learners.

The Band is  a community band and not for profit organisation registered with Charities therefore donations are eligible for tax writeoff.

The Gisborne Concert Mezzo Band has not been to the NZ Concert Bands Festival for two years owing to cost.  Being a low-socio economic community it is difficult to fundraise large amounts out of the community and we have a very limited number of corporates - who get approached every week by organisations seeking their support.

It is imperative that our youth musicians attend the 2013 NZ Concert Bands Festival in Tauranga 29 August-1September 2013 to ensure they continue growing and developing as musicians.

The Band includes youth musicians 10-18 years of age supported by adult mentors.  At the Nationals the Band performs a community performance (this year at a school) and their adjudicated performance. Additionally some youth participate in solo and ensembles. Performances at the nationals are adjudicated by internationally renowned musicians and the experience of performing amongst their peers combined with the adjudicators feedback enables the players to continually grow and develop their musical abilities. The Band has to raise $12,500 for entry fees, bus transport and accommodation. We continue our fundraising efforts but as at mid-June we have raised $5,000.
