Stu Buchanan's Album - "Hey! What's The Time?"
Project 2013-06-03 04:09:45 +1200
My grandpa used to go and listen to Stu play jazz at the bars when that's what was cool to do when you turned 18. My grandpa's grandpa probably did too. Stu is now 82 and has taught bucket loads of students, written bucket loads of songs and arrangements, performed bucket loads of concerts, and spearheaded bucket loads of projects - contributing to the local and national jazz scenes both musically and in supporting so many other musicians. He is an integral part of the New Zealand jazz scene and the Christchurch jazz heritage.
One of his recent projects over the last, well, couple of decades has been directing the Garden City Big Band - of which he still pours his heart into at 82 - when his health allows, that is. Speaking of buckets, one of Stu's bucket list items is to record ten of his compositions with the Garden City Big Band. Which brings us to why we are all here, on this PledgeMe web page.
We are all set to record this album at the end of July and have it ready to release at a fantastic concert in the Christchurch Big Band Festival on Monday 28 October 2013... but we just need to raise some money to cover the cost of duplicating the CDs so you can have a copy. And if we have some money left over, we will be able to pay to actually record the album too, which will ensure that you don't receive a blank CD.
The great news is that while we gratefully accept donations, you don't even have to give us money for nothing! If all you do is pre-purchase a CD, you would still be helping us enormously.
On behalf of Stu and the band, we really appreciate your support.
