Arcane is a Guerrilla Agency . We like to play and we are also rather keen on enhancing the liveability of Auckland's inner city .Design led thinking is our forte. Guerrilla Play ,our weapon of choice. 

Auckland is a dynamic city with a lot of potential . However , we feel our backyard could use a bit of a spruce up. Especially when it comes to the areas of resilience, inclusiveness and authenticity.  We have adopted these key values from the research of Darko Radovic and The Phillips Center For Health and Wellbeing. Our key aim is to enhance the liveability and lovability of Auckland's inner city by designing opportunities to inspire a connection between people and place. We believe that play can be a powerful tool in the creation of community and identity . 

We have a bunch of exciting ideas in the pipeline .... but we could use a little help from our friends... 

Arcane is very definitely not for profit and is something of a social enterprise .This, coupled with the fact that our team are all students , ( Bachelor of Creative Technologies , Colab, AUT University) means that our current budget is very very tiny. 

Despite this, we have BIG ideas ....

FUN STUFF !

The opportunities for guerrilla play that we have designed involve the creation of a number of objects/artefacts /systems . These  will facilitate community experiences which will challenge the ways in which people interact with the space and each other in Aucklands inner city.  

Plus the will be super FUN! 

Creating stuff also requires some cold hard cash . Your pledges will bring our ideas to life!

                            You say pavlova ...I say ...

Our first idea centres around Pavlova yes pavlova.  We are aiming to implement a pavlova centric interactive design which will inspire fun and interaction in urban space.

 This idea comes from a phenomenon we have noticed in our community culture. 

As Kiwi's we are proud as ever of our rural heritage and we all love to wax lyrical about the old number 8 wire ,gumboots, that swanni you've had for twenty years and of course  Mum's world class Pav ..

Yet we tend to marginalise this cultural identity from our urban experience. Its high time we stopped checking our identity at the door. ..Auckland is our city . Its time we took ownership.

GETTING THE WORD OUT ... 

As part of our process we need to create interest and hype around our ideas. 

 We want the WHOLE of Auckland ,MOST of New Zealand and SOME of the rest of the world to hear about Arcane.

We are planning to achieve this through the implementation of a kick-ass totally awesome guerrilla marketing campaign.  However, marketing costs money. Your pledges will go towards  printing,advertising and material costs.  

We are also going to be  running a challenge  to crowdsource a bit of creativity and community co-creation over on  http://www.promoki.com/. The team at Promoki are awesome so head on over and have a look. Your pledges will help us to arrange some sweet prizes for our challenge !

Keeping the surprise alive ! 

Due to the guerrilla nature of our project we don't want to release to many specific details about our designs at this stage .  We want our audience, especially our pledgers, to experience the full wonder of our campaign and events.  So please forgive us if we are a little light on the detail ! We promise our designs are flat out awesome! We will also be offering exclusive sneak peak updates to our pledgers!

Finally ...

We believe in Good Fun ! 

We don't want the fun and enjoyment created by Arcane to be at the expense of other humans or the environment. This being the case we are aiming to use recovered resources wherever possible ,source out sustainable materials and abide by policies such as Fair Trade . We are also intending to use our project installations as an opportunity to raise awareness about issues effecting our local community . Healthy Eating,Exercise and Mental Wellbeing are areas we will be considering.
