About

We Need Your Help To Buy The Kingston Flyer Railway

Project 2013-05-20 02:03:35 +1200

The Kingston Flyer is one of New Zealand’s most Iconic Steam Trains based @ Kingston on the Shores of Lake Wakitipu, Queenstown . It has been chugging up & down the Track from Kingston to Lumsden & in more recent times only the 14 km to Fairlight 28km return . It's had approx 5 owners & it really needs to be set up as a Charitable Trust and this is what I want to achieve with your help . We wish to raise the funds required to Purchase the Kingston Flyer Vintage Railway $2.5Mil , which is Located on the Shores of Lake Wakatipu, @ Kingston , Queenstown New Zealand . Once we have purchased the complete Railway then we intend to set it up as a Charitable Trust to be known as the "Kingston Flyer Railway Heritage Trust" .

We are Looking at raising $3.6 Million NZD, $2.5 Mil to purchase the complete railway & the rest to set up the Trust . Once we know we have the Funds in pledges then we can make an offer to purchase the Railway through the Sales Agents @ Tourism Properties Brokers of Auckland . I'm in the process of forming a Charitable Trust to be known as the Kingston Flyer Railway Heritage Trust .

The first goal is to purchase the complete railway then there will be a lot of maintenance to carry out and get it running again ASAP. Plus I wish to build two workshops one to house the historic bird cage carriage & the 7 others wooden ones plus a workshop to house & work on the two Ab778 & Ab795 Steam Locomotives .

Our long term 10 year plan is to look at building a new station platform closer to the Main Road @ Kingston & build a bridge @ Fairlight to push the railway back to Garston another 6 km making a 40km return Trip to Kingston .

So I look forward to your support big or small so we can keep this Great Kiwi Railway in the hands of kiwi's for the next generation to enjoy as we all have so far .

The Team

I have 3 people from Southland Interested in becoming Trustees so far, ones a Diesel Mechanic , myself an Engineer with Steam Tickets  & the third is a Publican who is looking into it . We still Need 5 More Passionate People , I have also been talking to several other Business People from up around the Lumsden, Kingston, Queenstown area who are all keen to see a Trust formed . So if you have the Skills Needed & you want to be one of the First Founding Trustees then contact me Karl Barkley 027 5940090 or Email : [email protected]

It's all hinging on being able to raise the funds first before we can proceed ! I have a Trust Deed Drafted up so far which is in the hands of our Trust Lawyer .

About Karl

I hold my steam tickets to operate industrial boilers, traction engines & steam railway locomotives.

I have 3 adult children & have been a Fitter / Welder , Machinist for over 35 years, I once owned my own engineering workshop on the West Coast @ Hokitika for 7 1/2 years .

Presently I'm in the process of raising the funds required to purchase the Kingston Flyer Railway & set it up as a Charitable Trust, that's where you come in! As I require your pledge we need to raise $3,600,000 or $100 from 36,000 Kiwi's the bigger the pledge the sooner we can make the trust happen .

Thanks again
