About

The Hip Op-Eration Crew

Project 2013-05-19 21:15:08 +1200

The Hip Op-eration Crew are the world's oldest hip hop dance group. We are a mega dance crew consisting of 37 senior citizens aged 66 to 96 years old and are all neighbours on Waiheke Island. We recently competed in the National Hip Hop Dance Championships and received a standing ovation. We have now been invited to perform at the World Hip Hop Championships in Las Vegas in August.

Our aim is to reduce the stigma of aging and to encourage people to honour and respect young people - using dance as a vehicle to engage and educate international audiences. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show the world that, just because you're a senior citizen it doesn't mean you can't live life to the fullest, learn new things and leave this world dancing! We hope to inspire people around the globe and also promote the youthfulness and courageous spirit of New Zealand people.

The World Hip Hop Championships is one of the biggest global dance events in the world and is broadcast to over 43 countries around the world. The dance we are planning on performing at the World Hip Hop Championships is certainly going to impress and will also feature music produced by talented New Zealand musicians (which we will also be promoting).

However, to make this happen, we need to raise NZ$250,000 to pay for the travel costs. 10% of this amount ($25,000) will go into our Otara Youth Programme - which we established as part of our motto to Respect and Honour Youth. The Hip Op-eration Crew members know this is their last chance to make a difference in the world but it can't happen unless potential pledgers want to make a difference in the world too.
