"F.O.B." An American Play Hitting The Basement Theatre!
Project 2013-05-12 01:34:53 +1200
Hi guys! Our team, PAT Theatre, are currently beginning to shape our play “F.O.B.” by David Henry Hwang which is being performed at the Basement Theatre from June 25th-29th.
F.O.B. is a 1980 Obie award winning Asian-American play that depicts (through the antics and dumplings of Benjamin Teh and Unitec Acting Graduates Chye-Ling Huang and James Roque) the struggles and mishaps that arise when integrating into a society that is entirely different from the one you call home.
Specifically, F.O.B. takes us inside the world of America’s first and second generation Chinese immigrants in LA, 1978. Focusing in on cousins Grace and Dale, and newcomer Steve, we are exposed to the tension and hilarity that arises from trying to fit in whilst holding onto cultural identity. Immigration into New Zealand is common place in our society, and yet Asian immigration is left rarely touched upon; particularly in live theatre. PAT Theatre intend to explore (in as much depth and humour as is possible - A LOT), how the story of F.O.B. is relatable to the everyday New Zealander.
Unitec Directing Graduate Adam Moorhead (Heckled, DA; Just above the Clouds), co-director Amanda Tito (Jacques Brel, The Dining Room), and producer Tayla Pitt (One by One) complete the crew spinning the wheels of our piece.
Our PledgeMe target is $475 which will cover the rights of the play. Any amount beyond this will help with PledgeMe fees and our other major costs. These include the Basement fees, marketing, lighting crew, and set, which we feel these are manageable within our small budget.
Thank you for your interest and regardless of whether you pledge, we look forward to seeing you in the audience ;)
