About

The Grand Cathedral Square Limited

The Grand Cathedral Square

Your Place, Your Space

Housed in the 140-year-old former Chief Post Office in Cathedral Square, The Grand has been part of the very fabric of this city for generations. The building has stood the tests of time, city developments, and earthquakes, and is as impressive today as the day it was built. A Grand old Lady, a part of our fabric and as it has always been Your Place, Your Space.

The Grand will be a leased venue inside the prime location of the old Chief Post Office building, with access to Cathedral Square. We plan to turn The Grand into a world-class destination for our world-class city, complete with an artisan French bakery, people-focused food court experience, visitor information centre, iconic restaurants, and bars and one of New Zealand’s largest outdoor plazas.

Our Vision

Our vision is for The Grand to be a place that Canterbury locals are proud of, and a must-see destination for out-of-town visitors – a place where people can meet, greet, socialise and play. But it will also be capable of adapting to change quickly and easily. That might be offering the latest craze to hit Christchurch – think the Bruffin – or introducing an up-and-coming food experience.

Our vision is when our customers are dining with us for breakfast and lunch, our evening entertainment and events will be advertised and communicated to our customers by means of table talkers and our friendly wait staff. The Council event space is located right next door which we believe may present opportunities to collaborate and further promote The Grand’s dynamic event and entertainment offerings.

Here is your opportunity to be a part of this amazing redevelopment and take ownership of your city’s revitalisation with an investment in The Grand and secure your piece of Christchurch.

Our Team

Darin Rainbird. Director

Darin has spent the last 25 years building and developing his own businesses in the Hospitality, Tourism, Marketing and Property Development sectors. He took ownership and managed the successful transition of The Akaroa i-SITE from a substantial (six figure) loss making enterprise into a stand-alone, privately owned, profit making (six figure) enterprise. He demonstrates on a continuing basis the ability to see opportunity and capitalise on it. His unorthodox marketing acumen has seen his businesses flourish and cope with the challenges the world has currently presented. We welcome his insight and involvement in the development of The Grand.

Tony Nguye. Project Manager

Tony started his career as a Junior Quantity Surveyor / Project Manager in 2014. He then went onto study at Ara Polytechnic to gain his qualification in construction management and quatity surveying. Tony specialises in EQC repairs, new builds and internal fit-outs for commercial, industrial and residential properties, for both insurers and private clients. Tony has delivered excellent outcomes for over 100 small to large projects in the last 7 years. He is a strong communciator and works well with contractors, consultants, loss adjusters and suppliers, who have become a great network he can tap into.

Geoffrey Crabbe. Executive Chef

Geoff has been involved in numerous hospitality projects, both development and pre-opening stages. Geoff is a results-driven leader with extensive experience from Asia to Australia in leading hospitality operations for high profile resorts for over 22 years. His experience includes Executive Chef at The Chateau Hotel, Amazonita and Anantara Resorts & Spa in Cambodia & Vietnam, to name just a few. His previous experience includes Head Chef at The Chateau Hotel, Dubai Gold Club and Westin Dubai Min Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina.

Bianca Baillie. Business Development Manager

Bianca brings more than 10 years of international experience in the financial advisory and services sector. Her project management skills and ‘let’s get it done’ attitude is exactly what The Grand requires to ensure we move along swiftly, build momentum, achieve the goals we set out, and succeed. Bianca enjoys building relationships and finding the best people to partner with in business, to create long term ventures with.

The Grand Restoration Journey

Inside The Grand restoration.

What's Next For The Grand?

In the first three years, we plan to focus solely on cementing our place within Christchurch’s hospitality sector and growing the core customer base of The Grand. We know from exhaustive examination, based on Darin, the CEO and the Founders 37 years of marketing development and start-up experience combined, that we have the strategies and plans to accomplish this.

From there, we believe The Grand will be in a position to consider other opportunities. Our highly capable and experienced team plans to focus on accelerating our expansion plans by looking for complementary development opportunities that sit within our respective fields of expertise. Initially, we plan for these to be centred on growing our influence and offerings within Christchurch, and later include opportunities to grow sustainably beyond Christchurch and into greater New Zealand.

Once The Grand business model is proven and successful the company's intention is to look at similar projects in other locations.

    Offer Details

    Current Valuation 5,000,000

    Raise Maximum 2,000,000
    Share Price 1.00
    Minimum Pledge 50.00
    Maximum Shares Offered 2,000,000
    Explanation of valuation:

When calculating the valuation for The Grand, we have used two methodologies, as advised by independent financial consultants (Perpetual growth method and exit multiple method) and then averaged them to give us the current valuation. Based on our financial forecasts this equates to a $9,375,000 valuation. Given that we are a new start-up business we felt that a more conservative approach was appropriate and as such we are calculating a pre raise valuation of $5,000,000 and a post raise valuation, if fully subscribed of $7,000,000. This represents a $1.00 per share value.
Using this more conservative approach we believe is a more prudent and fair approach for our new prospective shareholders, considering we are pre-revenue at this time. We believe this presents a big opportunity for prospective investors to become shareholders in The Grand right from the beginning.
This valuation has been undertaken by The Grand’s financial advisors using methodologies similar to other start-up (restaurant or hospitality) companies, and peer reviewed by an external Chartered Accountancy Firm, Nexia Limited.

    Thanks for the question.

We will make use of a share trading platform named Syndex where you will have the option to sell or trade your shares in the future.

      Current Valuation 5,000,000
      Raise Minimum 150,000
