Search For Yeti Debut Album Fundraiser

Project 2024-03-13 20:45:11 +1300

Search For Yeti are hard at work on their debut album, but need your help!

Update! Holy heck, target reached! Thank you so incredibly much to everyone who has pledged, we honestly can’t get over the support and kind words from everyone. There is still over a week left to go for the campaign though, so if there is anyone out there still thinking about pledging, or you know someone who might be keen, please act on that! It’s not too late to get your name on the final album, which applies for everyone who pledges, no matter how much.

Also though, if we can reach $6k then we will be in a position to do something pretty amazing – a gatefold sleeve for the album and coloured vinyl!!! There is something just so much more tangible and special about a gatefold, and coloured vinyl looks so much cooler on the turntable. Here at Yeti HQ we are feeling very humbled by the love out there, and we are going to do everything we can to deliver you the best finished work that we possibly can.

We are nearing the halfway point of recording our debut album - we’ve narrowed it down to 9 songs that we think are the business, and have already committed four of them to tape (two of which have already been released)

Our first single ‘Red’ was released in August of last year, which was a soaring and layered cinematic 7-minute epic. It was accompanied by a suitably moody music video

The second single ‘What You Mean To Me’ was released in March 2024, and is a short, sharp shot of power pop, which was accompanied by a quirky, charming video created and shot by José Barbosa:

The two songs that have been released so far represent both ends of the spectrum of what you can expect to hear on the album, which we aspire to be a varied yet cohesive album, full of both the energy and atmospheric textures listeners have come to expect from the Search For Yeti live show. As all 3 members of the band contribute to the song-writing, we are all pouring all of our energy into making this album the best it possibly can be - we love the possibilities that the studio brings to being able to bring these songs to life in a way that we are unable to do on the stage.

Mixing and mastering wizardry

To help us achieve this, we’ve enlisted the help of esteemed producer Toby Lloyd of Tiny Triumph Recordings - he definitely understands what we are wanting with our sound and has been super great to work with, bringing ideas to the table we wouldn’t have thought of ourselves and pushing us to deliver better performances. Once recorded, the album will be mastered in Germany by Grammy-nominated Robin Schmidt, whose credits include Pixies, The 1975 and Search For Yeti faves Wolf Alice. As you can hear from the two singles released so far, after Toby and Robin are done with their mixing and mastering wizardy, the result is a professional recording of a truly international standard.

Why we're crowdfunding

We have already invested a good amount of our own money into this project and will be spending more still - but to make it a little bit easier we are trying to raise an extra $5000 to supplement this, with the plan being to release the album in the second half of 2024, including a vinyl release (to be pressed at Holiday Records). Here’s a rough overview of the main costs we need to cover that your contribution will help with:

Recording/mixing: $15,000

Mastering: $2,500

Vinyl pressing: $4,500

Total: $22,000

Every pledge matters

Every pledge (no matter how much) will receive a digital download copy of the album upon release as well as a thank you in the vinyl liner notes. We’ve got a range of options for contributing, with some pretty cool rewards available - any and all contributions will mean the world to us - a big ngā mihi in advance to everyone who contributes - thanks for supporting art!
