About

Wellington Free Festival Project

Project 2012-12-17 06:00:23 +1300

We are a open collective of performers, musicians and artists who put on free festivals in the Wellington region, independent from commercial or council funding. We want to keep doing free events open to community participation but we currently lack essential means of transport and a generator for locations without mains power. We've put on events from the Botanic Gardens to Lake Ferry in the Cape Peninsular.

Having built up our own soundsystem and networked with some of Wellingtons most vibrant performers and artists, all we need is your help to continue growing a culture of free independent community festivals for all to enjoy.

One of our main focuses is to provide a friendly environment and resources to enable youth participation in cultural projects and creative development. We work in collaboration with a number of community focused collectives in the CBD.

$3000 would bring us to the mark we need to complete our set up. Our events will always be free, inclusive and not for profit!

Involved in making this happen are:

Kara is a talented local artist and cares for animals full time. She is involved the logistics, promotion and visual and decorative side of things, as well as everything else behind the scenes to make things run smoothly.

Gwilym is another local artist and musician, with nearly 15 years music experience, including playing bands, producing and DJing, tertiary level education in music as well as having studied audio production at a technical institute. He is currently building a sound studio and studying physics at Victoria University.

Ruffle recently upped sticked from London and moved to Wellington, NZ bringing with him Rumble and Scratch soundsystem. He's widely networked and involved in organising regular events in the city. You can check out his regular radio sets via www.dnbheaven.com every Sunday NZ time 02.00pm - 03.30pm'

Amidst astronomy and other things Paul Moss has long worked with both sound and visuals, mastering the necessary technologies to create and perform a wide variety of work.

Spinsta is a multi genre DJ from Wellington. She explores all types of electronic dance music, supporting many International and local artists in events around Wellington, the North Island and recently Australia. She currently holds down two radio shows in Wellington for RadioActive.fm and FastRadio.co.nz and is co-owner of The Real Big Groove (RBG) with Alexis K, a platform and outlet for local music.
