Digitising The H.Mck.Geddes 16mm Collection
Project 2017-10-04 18:55:20 +1300
The digitsing and preservation of Geddes 16mm footage (1920-1970) presents an oppportunity to know who came before and reflect upon the Geddes family history. In particular the unique and colourful lives of Mac and Ethelwyn, Macs siblings and Granny Geddes.
The diverse content of footage includes Whaling in Picton, Wenderholm family time, Commerical Eeling in Ellesmere, Days at Brown Barrett, Life in historic Titirangi and central Auckland properties, World family trips and Multiple signifcant weddings. In addition to this, 'eccentricity' is a common theme.
Totalling 7150ft, I have researched the various avenues foward.
Nga Taonga (NZ national film achive) has agreed to hold the film permanently and would be available to digitise the footage however it is expected to take many years (5+) to actually get through the collection.
I am therefore proposing that we get this done professionally by Videostation based in Christchurch who have the best equipment and are actually very well priced. Videostation has quoted $4730 inclusive of GST to get this done. I think this is very reasonable considering the quality of product delivered. (see link above to footage previous digitised).

I am hoping that we can reach our goal and get it done by the end of the year, in time for a screening of the footage for family, friends and contributors at Lopdell house in Summer 2018.
Please contribute what you can.
Ngā mihi me te aroha nui,
HG and the wider Geddes family...
