About

Bright Lights Music Competition - Bringing Young Musicians To The Big Stage

Project 2017-09-01 16:18:03 +1200

Bright Lights is a not for profit music competition held on the Kapiti Coast. Our vision is to give young musicians an opportunity to perform, to share their talents, to meet other young musicians and to get hands on mentoring from active NZ artists.

Aimed at ages 8-18, Bright Lights is a three stage competition. First rounds are the heats, held at the Kapiti Community Centre. The entrants perform infront of 3 judges, they will then recieve feedback. Our top priority is to provide a positive, fun and encouraging environment so the process is enjoyed whether they progress to the next round or not.

From there, the judges shortlist 18 acts. These 18 acts get to partake in workshops lead by NZ industry musicians. Following the workshops, and armed with personalised feedback, and fresh tools, they then perfrom again. This time at Southwards Auditorium. Where the FINAL 8 acts are chosen for the final show!

The final show is also at Southwards Auditorium. Open to the public, this event is a showcase of the talent and hardwork. Its a full stage performance with lights and professional sound system. MCd by a surprise guest, the kids perform their songs to a full audience, we have interactactive games for spot prizes, and the winners are announced.

Prizes are: Live Performance at the Coastella Music Festival, Professional Recording Session, Music Equipment (from The Family Music Store) and the Bright Lights trophy.

We believe this competion has the right balance of excitment, experience and learning and we would love to beable to make it bigger and better this year. We are asking for help for the cost of the mentors and the auditorium.
