Healthy Citizens - Healthy Communities

Elise is creating a community acupuncture clinic in Oamaru, where people can walk in, sit down, and recieve affordable acupuncture. She needs to buy 5 zero gravity chairs (they don't actually defy gravity, but they are comfy!). Check out the Community Acupuncture Oamaru clinic website here www.communityacu.net

The Clinic

Acupuncture is a well recognized alternative medicine, but it is expensive. It doesn't have to be. Community style acupuncture breaks down the financial barrier to receiving treatment when ill, and ultimately, it helps people to stay well. Receiving treatment in one room together with other acu-goers means Elise, the acupuncturist, can treat several people at once, lowering the cost for the patient. The payment method is a sliding scale fee, where patients can choose to pay between $15 and $40 for their treatment.

So, about those chairs?

When the patient reclines back their feet come up too, making it as though they're lying down. They are similar to ones you may have seen at blood donation clinics (minus the blood loss). The chairs are important because some people can get lightheaded during a treatment, but the postion that the chairs put you in reduce the risk of fainting. And did I mention that they're comfy?!

The chairs cost $99 each, and the funding goal of $540 includes PledgeMe's fees.
