About

Tu Mai Awa: Improving Responses To Domestic Violence In Aotearoa

Project 2016-07-11 23:40:53 +1200

Our vision is for an Aotearoa free from Domestic Violence.

We want to help change the way we feel about Domestic Violence as a society so that we respond more effectively especially by attending to the dignity of those experiencing violence.

We work with experts in the field to design approaches; we provide training and ongoing support to individuals and organisations implementing the approach, we work with Massey University to ensure those accessing the  intervention can tell us about their experience  of our approach and other helpful responses they receive from institutions etc- we use this information to advocate for systemic change, to improve our response and to design new initiatives.

This particular initiative in the Hawkes Bay is a partnership with Pou Tiaki, Laurie Te Nahu and Tai Pukenga Ltd, and Hastings Women's Refuge. We will be delivering an intensive Whanau based and family driven co-ordinated response to families and Whanau experiencing violence. For more information about us and the ideas and people that inspire us go to www.tumaiawa.nz

Your money will go towards helping us share and train others in this approach and specifically...

  • Creating training manuals and handbooks
  • Subsidising the cost of training people in the approach
  • Presentations to stakeholders and funders
  • Developing our on-line resources
  • Research that gives a VOICE to those experiencing violence
