About

Fostering Yoga Warriors Across Aotearoa

Project 2016-04-11 22:14:50 +1200

Yoga in Schools offers a fun and unique way to incorporate Te Reo Māori, mindfulness and physical education into everyday teaching to help meet hauora - well-being - based objectives.

Each of our programmes is tailored to specific age groups and based on school campus during the school term.

Here's what we can offer your children at school

  • Fun and easy to learn Te Reo Māori

  • Yoga movements and breathing techniques for getting through lifes most challenging moments

If you are having trouble meeting any of the hauora based teaching objectives - physical, mental and emotional, social, and spiritual well-being - or simply want a new way to bring life into the classroom. We can help! We have carefully aligned our programmes with the current New Zealand teaching curriculum and key competencies.

The benefits of having Yoga in Schools extends beyond the individual student and into the community. By practicing yoga, students carry the physical, mental, spiritual and social benefits and learnings with them through life’s many challenges.

We need to employ more enthusiastic women. We want to offer an opportunity for other Yoga Mama's to turn their passion into a form of income and independence. The more guru's we have on board, the better prepared we will be to reach out to schools and children all across Aotearoa.

Our vision is to be the preferred hauora provider nationwide.

Our mission

Is to arm Yoga Mama's with the tools and knowledge to turn their passion into independence, and change the lives of children all over Aotearoa.

Who are we?

We are a Small Business of women

Letesha Hallett is the Yoga in Schools founder, lead guru and Yoga Mama.

Jessica Templeton is our Manager and Research Support.

Chevara Hutana is the newest edition to our team, guru in training and Yoga Mama.

Why does Aotearoa need Yoga In Schools?

As we are all well aware, since 2011, Canterbury and other parts of New Zealand continue to be effected by the devastating Earthquakes. It literally rocked our world. Lives were taken, homes were broken, family members separated, hearts hopes and dreams damaged. Anxiety, stress levels and self confidenece remain at a all time low in New Zealand.

We acknowledge that there is no magic elixir to remove the trauma from our minds and hearts.

We understand that healing takes time and support.

We have been working hard to help children and young adults in schools and parenting units across Christchurch to arm themselves with mindfulness movements and breathing techniques to break through the unease and trauma that still lingers in our day-to-day lives to build confident and resilient citizens.

We are fostering yoga warriors!

We believe in learning in a non-competitive enviroment is key to the success we see in our yoga warriors. We also draw on the benefits of a bilingual setting. Yoga warriors learn to associate Maori terms with everyday greetings, movements, feelings and parts of the body. Research shows that people who learn a second language are able to make clearer descions in life and increase the function of the brain - we want all of our yoga warriors to have these skills. Incorporating our beautiful national language is one way we can do this. The learning process is enhanced by using audio, visual and kinesthetic teaching techniques.

 Compelling feedback from our yoga warriors

Yoga makes me feel happy; calm; strong; relaxed; I thought about my happy place;

I get to have moe time; I feel good; I can breathe when I need to;

I can do this; I don't have to run; I can get yogi of the day; Yoga is my fitness;

I am a rakau;

You are my inspiration. I want to be a teacher; Can I be a leader?;

I feel like a real warrior.

How will your support help us to achieve our mission?

We need to employ more enthusiastic women. We want to offer an opportunity for other Yoga Mama's to turn their passion into a form of income and independence. The more guru's we have on board, the better prepared we will be to reach out to schools and children all across Aotearoa.

The funds raised will help us to:

  • Offer a paid training and professional development for our new guru's while they train in terms 3 and 4. We aim to have two new guru's, fully trained by the end of the year

  • Provide a set of mats and cleaning product for each of our new guru's.

  • Promote our services to schools across Aotearoa. Seeing is believing; so for every substantial geographical cluster of schools that express interest in our programme, we will travel to their campus with our gear and allow them to test out our programme for themselves.

  • Build a body of research around our practice. We are constantly collecting relevant information about the benefits of our practice for children. We are so passionate about this, we have even started collecting our own data to produce research that is relevant to kiwi kids.

We have created a reward system that offers Educators, Schools, Parenting Units, individuals and other organisations all over the country, the opportunity to mobilise our services. By supporting us, you are helping us reach out to Yoga Mama's and kiwi kids nationwide. Check out our top three rewards for some options.

Join us as we transform the lives of Kiwi Kids and Yoga Mama's

With your support we will foster a nation of yoga warriors!
