This Crowdfunding project is to raise funds for a pre-production trial run of bone conduction headphones. We’re calling them BonePhonez™. As you’ll read below, they work by transmitting sound through your cheekbones.

Your reward for supporting our product development is your very own pre-production BonePhonez™ headset!

WAIT! This isn’t new, is it? Well, yes it is. Others you can get in NZ have a cord to get in the way – they don’t connect via Bluetooth – and can’t be used for phone calls. BONEPHONES™ CAN!

What are BonePhonez™?
With “Open Ear” technology, BonePhonez are safer to use than traditional earphones or earbuds, because they leave your ears open to the sound of traffic, dogs, sirens, or any other street hazards that cyclists and joggers face.

Of course they look darn good, but they’re practical, too.

BonePhonez™ connect via Bluetooth 4.0 to your Smartphone so you can listen to your music while you drive, walk, cycle, jog, exercise, or whatever. But you can also use them for phone calls, because a microphone is hidden in the frame.

In fact, you can connect TWO phones - work and private - and talk (or listen to music) for up to 6 hours!           

Bone Conduction Technology
Try this: put your fingers tightly in your ears so you can’t hear a thing, then hum a tune. How come you can hear your voice? It’s because the bones of your skull transmit sound waves to your aural nerve.

(Here’s a trivia fact – it’s how Beethoven continued composing after he went deaf: he gripped a stick between his teeth and held the other end against the piano, so he could still hear the music!)

BonePhonez™ are SAFE, too. The “Open Ear” technology means there’s nothing in, or over, your ear to prevent you hearing the sounds of the outside world.

There’s another reason why these are safer than traditional choices – it avoids the hearing damage you risk when using traditional earbuds and headphones at high volume.

The Budget
We’ve scheduled the production of a trial shipment to prove the concept. For this we need to raise $2,800 (incl PledgeMe fees) so we’re going to offer just 25 BonePhonez™ headsets as rewards for pledges of $115 for this project. (Retail price of the BonePhonez™ will be $189 incl GST when they launch, next year.)

HOWEVER, if we reach the target early then we’ll accept all other pledges received before the project closes, at a supporter price of $129 each or $240 for two pairs.

So there’s an outside chance you might get them in time for Christmas, if you want to give something wild and different as a gift. (But it’s probably best to count on them for a big start to 2016.)

Our team has been involved in importing foodstuffs and household products, so we know how to deal with offshore suppliers and manage shipments, etc.

Your Rewards
This is also a chance for us to test the colour preferences: choose from black, white, green, yellow, blue, or red. We'll contact you after the project closes successfully, to ask your colour preference. (For example, if you order the Supporter Double Deal you might want one set in blue and the other in yellow.)
