About

Let's Buy A Tank

Project 2015-08-05 20:03:21 +1200

My name is Michael Garvey I host the Rock Night Show on The Rock FM,
I have a dream that collectively we can chip in $10 each and buy this sweet tank
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/rollsroyce/auction-724694271.htm

Then after we have some fun with it someone gets to purchase this awesome piece of machinery for $1.

How does it work?
Here's the idea, we all chip in $10 each, crowd fund to purchase the tank and if successful I will privately buy the tank for our use, we collectively will come up with some great uses for our tank, get together and use it, have an awesome time at our Tank Day, then one lucky bugger gets to buy the tank for $1, that person must have a current NZ Firearms licence as the tank is still classfied as a firearm although it is permanently deactivated from firing, powered by a V-12 Rolls Royce it's not exactly economical on fuel, effectively it's like a bull dozer on steroids.

We will come up with different rewards and ideas for the tank together on The Rock Night Show and plan an event where the tank can be on display and used to fulfill dreams and ideas, so we get to enjoy our crowd funded tank before someone get's to buy it and take it home.

Why $1?

According to our legal department something like this could not be used as a prize, which is why I am personally involved in the purchase, so it will be a simple transaction from one legal owner to another, and my sale price will be $1.

Is it Legal?

We have had our legal department make sure I am following all current rules and regualtions and yes it is legal to own a deactivated vehicle like this one as long as you hold a Standard (A-Cat) New Zealand Firearms licence, the tank is for display purposes or driving around on a farm/private land, it cannot be driven on the road or registered. It must be transported to safe driving locations by specialist heavy transport operators. The barrel and all other weapon systems have been fully deactivated so is simply for show these days. And it uses lots of fuel, I would advise any potenial interested buyers to think about if they could accommodate the tank in their current situation, you will need a safe legal place to operate the tank and it is also very expensive to fuel, if for some reason it became a burden to run, you could always donate it to a museum or private collector.

How do I own it?
Anyone can pledge and help us meet our goal, but if you want to purchase the tank for $1 you will need a Standard (A-Cat) New Zealand Firearms licence and register your interest by emailing me at - [email protected]

Cost break down

Our budget is $150,000 we have to cover Pledgeme fee's, Petrol, Heavy Transport rental for the tank, and any pledge ideas like crushing car's that our pledger's come up with.
On the off chance the tank sells before we reach our goal and we may have to buy another similar tank like this skoda http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/skoda/auction-890528354.htm.
