THE PROJECT
'Beast of Fawkes' is a film teaser for a project that could potentially be turned into many forms of media, such as a web series, television series, graphic novel series, game, short film or even a feature film. It will be a mixture of CG (computer generated) and live action. This teaser will be used as proof of our concept, so that we are able to create a media franchise for 'Beast of Fawkes'.
The teaser will be filmed on location with real live actors and also on a greenscreen for some scenes. The animation/visual effects team will then take this film footage and composite some computer generated elements into it to complete the teaser. The full teaser must be completed by the end of June 2015.
Fawkes cave concept
THE STORY
The story is about a young man named Thai who lives in a furturistic world. In this world, space travel is a common occurence and regular travel to different planets is normal. Thai is also the sole caregiver to his little sister Mia and the pair have an unbreakable bond.
Fawkes crash site concept
When their spaceship crashes on the planet Fawkes Thai wakes up alone with no sign of Mia, who was also aboard. With the ship completely destroyed and an entire planet to explore, Thai pins his hopes on the location beacon held by Mia.
However, instead of his sister, Thai encounters a young alien child and is drawn into a conflict between the cave-dwelling inhabitants of the planet and the monsters that roam the planet’s surface.

THE TEAM
Small Colossus Media is a multimedia company that has been set up by students studying the Bachelor of Digital Media (Film and Animation strands), Graduate Diploma of Film and Graduate Diploma of Animation at the Southern Institute of Technology in Invercargill.
The team come from varying backgrounds of animation, graphic design, film makers and story tellers and are an enthusiastic, motivated group of individuals. Our team members are collaborating on this project to make a truly outstanding product.

BUDGET
The project has a very small budget that is currently being spent on the cost of materials for our art department to create sets, make props and costumes. It is also being used to fund the cost of filming the teaser such as fuel for transport, paying for items that need to be rented and also for paying for food to feed the entire crew and cast during the five day shoot.
The money that we are trying to crowd fund is needed for post production funding as we do not have any budget for this. We would like to pay for rendering services that will cut down the delivery time and help us to meet our deadline. Post production is also very labour intensive, so we would also like to make sure that our post production team are fed well during this time.

Filming The Beast

Small Colossus Media are currently half way through filming at the moment. We have filmed everything on location and are currently preparing to film on the green screen. Our crew have done a brilliant job so far and our cast have been amazing! Check out some photos from the first few days of filming!
Don Giwantha and Wetini Rapana are getting the camera and sound gear set up to film some behind the scenes footage.
Small Colossus Media's Gaffer, Tyler Baikie and assistant Aaron Askew set up film lights, ready for shooting.
On-Set unit base, costume/make up and equipment tents.
Costume Assistant, Lana Black fixes up Krai's costume between takes - Krai is played by the talented Gabrielle Mainland.
Director, Dan DeLaet watches the monitor as the next shot is ready to roll.
As you can all see, we have been very busy filming and are working hard to get the last of the filming completed. To those of you that have already pledged, we just want to send you out a huge THANK YOU!!!!!
