Get A Kiwi Film Maker To Cannes
Project 2015-03-03 14:58:52 +1300
Every short film maker wants be selected for the Cannes film festival. its a lofty dream but possible!! My Film After Wonderland, has done just that!! Besides being amazed... I want to follow it there!!
Yes it’s true, it’s been selected to screen and have its World Premiere in the Cannes Short film Corner, as part of the 68th Festival de Cannes 2015. Just last year I finished my Masters in Screen Production at the University of Auckland (concluding 4 years of study!), and After Wonderland is my Masters Screen project. Now I give it a life through Film Festivals, and the journey begins!
Above L to R James Compton who plays Johnny, Sean O'Connor- who plays Lionel, Morgan (Alice) and Aaron (Dylan), and Shirley played by Stephanie Liebert.
After Wonderland tells the New Zealand story of an only child Alice, who struggles to stay visible in her 1960’s oddball family. She falls for the temptations of Dylan who leads her to a kind of wonderland, away from the dark truth of her parents. When her choices unravel and threaten her life, her distant father emerges from his metaphorical rabbit hole to reconcile the damage. Alice sees a thread of hope to mend their pain and grief.
I would like to join my film in France and attend the Short Film Corner in the Festival de Cannes in May 13th to 24th, 2015. I will have the chance to meet other like-minded filmmakers from all over the globe, make new connections with agents and Producers, pitch my next project all while being inspired by the world’s best short films.
Lionel (played by Sean O'Connor) Alice's Dad, in his WW2 War Room. Production Design and set by Linda Darby. Art Dept by Anne-marie Dixon. This room was beautifully lit by Lava Lighting; James Young, Grant McKinnon, Mathew Thomas and Alexander Jenkins (DOP).
Continuity Kim Maree, Art Dept. Annemarie Dixon and Linda Darby discuss the 'War Room' design. (Lancaster Bomber model on table!!)
The Cannes Short Film Corner is an area where accredited guests, film buyers, film festival programmers, producers and sales agents come to watch selected short films in small theatres and on the digital film library booths. As the Director of the team of After Wonderland, we are honoured to be representing New Zealand as part of this global collection.
Directing the two lead actors on location of Musick Point; Morgan Albrecht as Alice and Aaron McGregor as Dylan, with Beren Allan 1st AD, Shane Deed Sound, and Grant McKinnon AC at the back
Being the leader of an enthusiastic team that are keen to see their Producer/Director in the hot seat to Cannes, and not to mention the voice carrying the hopes of many passionate Kiwi short film makers who want our all our short films to succeed!!
Director of Photography Alex Jenkins and I, with Ritchie Simkins 1st AC.
I need to raise approximately $5,000 to meet all the costs of travelling to Nice in France, then onto Cannes 4 hours from there. B&B accommodation while in Cannes, food :) and 10% contingency; for the what if's, and also a small amount to cover the cost of your rewards.
Below is the picturesque Musick Point location...
It is an exciting time ahead, for my husband and my children to see their mum succeed in Cannes, and our emotive story of reconciliation set in our beautiful New Zealand, to be shown to the world of Film Festival prestige, that is Festival de CANNES.
Thank you for taking the time to read, and give a little to go along way!!
I hope you enjoy choosing a reward as much as I look forward to shopping, packaging and sending them to you!
thanks heaps for your support - Linda :)
my team thanks you..
and my family thank you!!
