About

ThumbsUp Ride Carpooling Mobile App

Project 2014-12-04 21:22:40 +1300

Project Overview

The name of the Mobile App is called ThumbsUp Ride. The app allows users to offer and request rides from other users in the same town or city. This app will be available world-wide. Integrating into popular social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, the app is a hub for users to communicate with their friends and compete on carbon emission savings via a scoreboard. It will make carpooling “cool” and fun.

The Problem

Traffic congestion and CO2 emissions are two very important issues that directly affect our lives. We keep building more roads, only to see ever increasing traffic jams. We drill for more oil, further polluting our environment and leaving a negative legacy for future generations. As a society, we need to seriously reduce our carbon footprint and one way is by carpooling. All it takes is for drivers to take one passenger each.

The Solution

We are developing this mobile app to help people organize carpooling and road trips through social networks. Our app will also have a unique “Get home safe” feature to help minimise the risk of getting into a stranger’s car.

Users can organize carpooling for themselves or for a group. Carpooling can also be organised directly from Google Calendar or Facebook Events - getting and offering rides have never been easier! When it is near the time for pick up, the passenger can see how far away the driver is.  This will appease those who get anxious about not getting picked up.

Communications is key to any social circle. The app allows users to send text and voice messages to their friends, and create group chats to keep everyone up to date. Users can share, like and comment on each other’s activities.

The app will be free to download and will be designed to work well even with cheaper phones and tablets.

How you can be a part of this solution

We think we have the right idea and solution, but we cannot do it alone. We need your help to make this happen!

We need a bit of money to pay couple of our core developers to work on this full time. After all, we do not want our developers to starve, do we? We also need a bit to market the app to make sure we get as large an audience as possible. For carpooling to work, we need a lot of people to use this app.

You can also help by passing this message along to your family and friends, and encourage them to pass it along. Please feel free to share this on your Facebook wall or post it on Twitter.
