Vajazzle - The Short Movie

Project 2014-10-06 16:03:03 +1300

Vajazzle PledgeMe Campaign - update one from Rodrigo Films on Vimeo.

[Vajazzle: To adorn ones denuded crotchal region with sparkly bits in a cute yet alluring design]

A blinged babe goes below the belt to take revenge on her binge-drinking boyfriend.

The dream...

To make a wickedly fun but tastefully shot sketch that pops up on your screen, has you tossing your head back with laughter (possibly spraying coffee from your nose)  and making your day.

There are people out there who need to know that gut-bustingly funny, smart and sassy women, exist. We do....and we live amongst you!

Vajazzle is a showcase for these crazy kids. We need more stories that explore the freaky side of the female mind. Would Lena Dunham, Kristen Wiig, Diablo Cody and Madeleine Sami get a buzz out of Vajazzle the movie? Uh Yuh-uh!. Will Ferrell? Judd Apatow? Taika Waititi? I'll say! John Key? Ummm... no.

So! Can we all just be ridiculous and utterly irreverent for 5 minutes? That's how short and sweet Vajazzle is going to be. Yup, a flash of dark genius that might just save you from an early and grumpy death.

The story...

Charlotte has everything planned. She's gone through the pain of de-fluffing her nether regions, then vajazzling her vajay-jay, so as to inspire some extra special sexy time with her man on their anniversary. Not only that, she's preparing his favourite meal – just like Mama used to make it. But clearly Dave is oblivious to how good he's got it. He's gone on the rampage at the pub and is getting down with the boys. When Charlotte finds out, she's furious. Not furious enough to let a good night die, though. She's called a girlfriend and plans to have her own night on the town. But not before she's combined the key ingredients of Dave's anniversary surprise in a revenge recipe that will leave him feeling both warm and fuzzy.

We need some help...

As a team, we're putting our time, effort, the resources we have, and whatever favours we can call on, to make this happen.  We've budgeted for an intensive two day shoot. We have a bunch of gear sorted already - camera, lenses and sound gear - and our key crew (focus puller, sound recordist, gaffer, key grip, production manager) will be working tirelessly at hugely discounted rates (thank you, thank you, thank you!), but we need some additional help to make this short movie all it can possibly be.

We'll be working around the clock, both before the shoot and after, to supplement our budget through sponsorships and promotions.  We were shortlisted for premiere funding, a real nod to the dedication that has already gone into developing the script.  Unfortunately, that was not to be, nor was our application for Fresh Shorts funding.  Let's face it, maybe this is just a bit too racey for conventional channels.

We're hoping that you'll help us in raising:

  • $1800 to pay our key crew
  • $1500 for additional camera accessories and lighting gear
  • $300 for location costs
  • $300 for wardrobe, set dressing, props and transportation
  • $600 to feed the cast and crew of 12 on an intensive two day shoot (we'll be getting food donations from family and friends to supplement this)

This is the bare minimum we'll need to get this film in the can.  Anything that we can raise over this amount will go towards the post-production costs - music composition, sound design, visual effects, edit suite hire and everything else that makes a movie look mouthwateringly magnificent.

The team...

Nathalie Boltt - Writer/Director/Actress

Nathalie knows a lot about revenge vajazzling filmmaking. She's best known for her roles in front of the camera, in blockbusters like District 9 and Doomsday, and on TV award-winners such as Step Dave, Bloodlines and Inspector George Gently, to name a few.  But she's also a deft hand behind the camera. Her debut short film, The Silk, co-directed with Clare Burgess, won a whole bunch of festival bling. Now it's time for a bit of a comedic turn.  But be warned!  This isn't Aunt Violet's sense of humour.

www.nathalieboltt.com

Aline Tran - Director of Photography

Cinematographer, Aline, has captured the breathtaking imagery in NZ films like Existence and The Red House, along with a slew of snappy shorts. She's no stranger to massive movie sets, and has recently finished an  epic stint as stereographer on the Hobbit trilogy. Her eye for detail and technical rigour will ensure that no flu-flu shot is (unintentionally) fluffed.

www.alinetran.com

Gabby Stevenson

Gabrielle Stevenson - Production Designer

Gabrielle Stevenson oozes fabulousness from every pore of her stylish self. She has an outrageously good eye for all things design and has displayed her cutting-edge costumier skills on such awe-inspiring projects as Peter Jackson's The Hobbit and the Emmy award winning Reservoir Hill. She headed the costume department on the hit TV series Girl vs Boy for three glorious seasons and is in constant demand on commercial and photography sets. But we've got her now. Oh yes, she's going to bling this thing.

Philip Boltt - Editor

Yes, Philip is Nathalie's partner - but he assures us this is not an auto-biographical work.  Perhaps a little too emphatically.

WOAH! The Earth Moved!

07/11/2014 at 10:34 PM

MMMMmm. Now that's what I call an explosive finish! Goodness gracious! We were excited, weren't we? I may have let out a small shriek when we reached the limit - but only into the pillow ; )

That little blue pledge line reached its peak so fast, it may have dented the head board...so to speak. Wow! what can we say but - thank you! That was astounding! Not to mention fun.

And as we bask in the soft after glow of a job well done, rest assured that we will now go on to return your special favours. And we won't be holding back. Oh no! this will be the kind of entertainment you go on to tell...actually no, you won't be telling the grand children about this until they're much older ; )

Vajazzle will be shot on the 14th and 15th of November. Very soon! We'll be keeping you up to date on our flash-tastic Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/vajazzlemovie

Or look for @vajazmo on Instagram for pretty kitty pictures. Our sizzling rewards on Pledge Me are still available, though, so if you'd like to keep on giving, we will put your dazzling donations to great use. Post production is a whole other ball game and we could sure use your help filling that fund! (editing, music design and composition, picture grade and all that glittering gaff cost a pretty penny!)

But back to you! To us. We did it! You, me and the V Team.

THANK YOU

I raise my glass. I raise my hand. V for Victory. V for ...

Thank you so much to our latest fantatstic pledgers - you crystal fiends! And I don't mean METH. We are moments away from a full vajazzle. A Future so bright you'll have to wear shades. Just bling and shades, nothing more. Oh my, isn't this lovely.

I kiss you all on your vajayjays - boys too - I kiss you on your manjayjays.

This is going to be the best short filmever. A black comedy that has you reliving with glee and horror, Dave's final punishment. It will be like the gift that keeps on giving. Like, you sweet Pledgers.

Once more, I thank you and raise the victorious V in your honour.

Darling pledgers and followers. We adore you. We have loved every shimmering ounce of attention. But with just 12 days to go, we are at your mercy - over a thousand people have watched our screamingly hilarious teaser. Well, sit down. This update will turn your knees to jelly! Once you've recovered, pretty please, flip out that credit card and, 250 of you, flick us a tenner, eh? Or 25 of you whip us a hundred. Or one of you, big sugar daddies or mommies, just slap us with a coupla K and it's all done and dusted. Spank you very much! Very, very much ; ) Trust me, it'll be worth it. Vajazzle the movie is going to tickle you PINK. xxx

I LOVE YOU! I'M SORRY! DON'T LEAVE!

Nat (as Charrlotte) says: "Darling, wonderful, kissable, waxable Vajazzlers! I am SO sorry you haven't been updated and personally thanked yet. Technical stuff is not my forté. Furry stuff is! And while technical stuff can get hairy, it still did not help me figure out how to shout your glorious names from the roof tops on Pledge Me. So I have gagged and bound Philip (I will wax his chest later, he loves it like that - it's what we call...Monday Night!) and hijacked his computer.

Jeremy Zimmerman, Robin Murphy,  Mister Ed,  Tracey Mackay, Paul Campion, Jane Fletcher, Lukke Xavier Bell-Booth, Steve Barr, Brenda Lockie, Jamie Lawrence, Kate Wilkinson, Guy McDouall, Jacqueline Ross, Marianne Eliott, Paul Prescott, Caterina Schiffers, Jo Thomas, John Kullmann, Catherine Gollan, Lynda Lester, Truly Godfrey, Jerry Mperdempes, Ben Zolno, Lyse Beck, Susannah Kenton, Taisuke Tanimura,  Sarah Purdy and my anonymous little angels, whoever you are...

I Love You! I'm Sorry! Don't Leave!!

I will place a sparkle for each of you on my vajayjay, securing your light in my nether regions and in the world FOR EVER. Or at least until you rub off. Hang on, that didn't sound right...

Anyway... A new teaser is on it's way! Keep up the wonderful work and please tell your friends. This baby is a-go-go. But only with your vital help.
