The Second Migration: A Documentary
Project 2014-06-18 01:59:37 +1200
The Second Migration is a documentary series that will explore the migration of Māori people to Australia. This documentary hopes to provide an insight into the reasons why Māori continue to relocate to Australia en masse.
- In pursuit of a better life?
- Improved work opportunities and remuneration in Australia?
- To join whanau already living in Australia?
Join us on our journey as we travel the length and breadth of Australia to interview Māori living in Australia, from varying backgrounds and circumstance, working in a diverse range of jobs from the mining industry to the corporate professions.
The Second Migration will be a collection of interviews capturing the experiences of Māori that have relocated to Australia.
The tone will be frank and candid as we seek to offer our audience an insight into the lives, experiences and challenges of Māori migrants living in Australia.
The style will be “reality based” but with a relaxed pace, with the majority of interviews taking place in the comfort and environment of the interviewee’s home.
Our research and available statistics show categorically that Māori are relocating to Australia in droves. This migration has been occurring for the last several decades. Furthermore, the population of Australian-born Māori has increased over the past decade with at least 1 in 3 Māori currently living in Australia having been born there.
We strongly believe this is a story that is important not only to Māori living in Australia but also for the whanau base back home in NZ. It is a human interest story that may appeal to Māori and non-Māori audiences alike as it focusses on the success and challenges of Māori living in Australia. By capturing these stories and experiences, we can provide Māori who might be contemplating moving to Australia with relevant information and advice.
Whether we accept it or not, Māori have become a mainstay of Australian society. We would like to produce this webseries to highlight these stories of success and challenge.
Our doco will be produced and packaged primarily for the web. Per the optimum requirements of a production for broadcast on the internet, our webseries will:
- Consist of a series of webisodes between 6 and 10 minutes in duration. These bite size video clips will enable our audience to easily digest our content via the Internet.
- Consist of 8 - 12 webisodes that can be viewed either in sequence, or individually.
- Be produced in a way that delivers relevant information to our audience in a succinct but interesting and captivating manner.
All the while we will strive to maintain the highest production and entertainment values with each webisode. Finally, we intend to maintain an ability to transfer our product to traditional broadcasting systems and platforms, which we believe can be simply achieved through the editing process.
Kia ora!
