Take Me On A PROJECT To The PACIFIC

Project 2014-05-18 18:36:39 +1200

Kia Ora Everyone!

I'm Blaise Turnbull, a 17 year old student from Christchurch. I've been accepted as one of ten NZ students to be a part of the Pacific Project.

What is the Pacific Project???

The Pacific Project is a 19 day learning and volunteering experience, from the 4th - 22nd July 2014, run by UN Youth NZ. The delegation will travel to Canberra and Samoa.

In Canberra we will attend Australia Model United Nations, Australia's premiere conference for young people. The theme of this years conference is 'Forces of Change'. Here I will be represent a country, tackle some of the world's most serious issues and learn how I can be a force for change in my own community!
The delegation then travels to Samoa. Here, we'll visit and talk to schools, NGO's, the NZ High Commission and the UNDP. We will be contributing to a developing community, learn about development initiatives in the Pacific and the role New Zealand plays in the security of the Pacific region.

Why me???

In both facets of the journey I will learn about community engagement and I will develop empowerment skills that I will bring back to NZ, thus enabling myself to enact positive change in our community!

I am super duper passionate about international affairs, global development, Model UN, UN Youth NZ, volunteering, debating, travelling, different cultures, fair trade, sustainability...need I go on? The Pacific Project will allow me to explore and nurture these passions of mine.

Why you???

I need your help. The Pacific Project is going to cost me nearly $4800. My target on PledgeMe is $425 though if I reach this goal I'd LOVE for you to keep on pledgin'.

The funds raised will go towards my individual delegation fee (flights, extra transport, accommodation, food and the National Conference fee) plus PledgeMe costs and will help me help others whilst in Samoa. Of course, you will earn some sneaky rewards with your pledges. Your support is imperative in enabling me to go on a Project to the Pacific.

Please spread the word, show your friends, share the love.

A big thank you to everyone who has pledged on my project so far... I am extremely grateful as every contribution is such a huge help!! I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences with you after the voyage!

A quick update regarding current news for the Pacific Project:
I've recently learnt that I will be representing the Federated States of Micronesia at the Australian National Model UN conference which will be interesting to say the least! Despite the small scale of this nation I am looking forward to furthering my knowledge about it through research prior to the trip and debate at the conference itself. As a research task, supplied by the delegation directors, I recently wrote a position paper on the 'Question of Small Island Developing States and Natural Disasters and Hazards'. This was highly stimulating due to the fact this issue is particularly pertinent in relation to Micronesia.

Just 17 days to go now before jetting off!

Thanks again for your support and don't forget to share this PledgeMe project with your friends ;)
